When we saw it at SoCal it was definitely a shaft drive car.. Jconcepts parts would have fit almost everywhere on it, and they looked to have a BJ4 shell on it. It looks as if this version has all of the losi parts replaced with AE parts (edit) (steering, C hub and bellcrank thing looks to have been altered.) I would bet that this car is mostly plastic (or graphite composite) and carbon fiber, with a very small amount of aluminum on it and mimics the BJ4 in all of the handling aspects..
I HATE those goofy B4 dish wheels.. the Pro-line ones have the nice inset to hide the rear locknuts and the fronts should really use something with less profile on them.. they are easy to hang on corrugated pipe (RV sewer line type stuff like at several tracks around here, sometimes its yellow)
Really I fail to see many of the improvements that I would expect from AE to have been made while releasing this car, though one could argue that it is currently the best platform in the world, and why change a good thing?
One improvement that COULD be made is to make the front and rear lock nuts universal so that thy are the same inside size. Getting them mixed up is a pain.
I can see this car being priced lower and making the 4wd class a viable option for a lot of racers, and an option if you do not like the xx4 or xxx4.
The thing that remains to be seen is the bottom chassis plate.. Tub composite.. or Carbon Fiber? thoughts?

I'm thinking it would most likely be carbon fiber, due mainly to the fact that the're probably going for a high performance, racing buggy. J concepts+Associated? Just sounds to me like the're going for the new best buggy on the market.

I would like to see them use the belt drive from the TC5, perhaps they will in later versions explore it as an option..

It would be nice if AE did something really progressive and delivered it on time. We'll see. Still a nice looking car and hopefully a set up from Losi stuff.
