Default RC10T4 Motor upgrade problem.

Hello I am new to the electric RC world and I have some questions. I went to the local hobby shop and I got the Trinity 19t Komodo pro motor. The guy at the shop told me that it would work on my stock RC10T4 ESC (he called it the Ai model or something.) Anyway, I got it home and hooked it up and got it running but for some reason when I first run it, it has TONS of power. I mean like the tires spin and it takes off and is going fast. Then after a few minutes it slows down, a LOT. Like to the point where its hard to climb hills and stuff. If I change the batteries it still does it. I am running 3200mah 6 cell batteries.

So my question is, should it work with this ESC or should I look into getting a new one?

yes you will need to upgrade your esc. unfortunately if you bought it a national hobby chain store those employees just usually dont know enough to help you. the stock motors that come with a RTR are not the turn limit that they are listed at. it is definetely something i wish the companies would look into cause then this happens and people blow their esc's and become frustrated with the whole experience. then there goes another potential racer. but anyways if you keep running it it will blow your esc and then its no good at all. at least it will handle a nice 27turn stock motor for racing and will be faster then the stock motor. but yes the 19t would be faster still but you do need a new esc for it to work properly. try finding a track in your area that has a shop and go there you find the answers you need and find better prices also.

Thanks for the quick reply. I went to a small little hobby shop near me.

I am trying to figure out which ESC I want to get so I can get this thing running. I also am going to need some new wire. I want to replace the factory little quick disconnects that goes to the wire with a deans connector and I need to switch all my batteries to deans. I have a bunch of deans connectors on the way to my house that I ordered.

What kind of ESC would you reccommend. I want something that isnt too expensive but will work with my motor well. I also want some more batteries. Maybe like 2 more, what brands do you reccommend?

IF you have the LRP Runner A.I. speed control (AI << as the hobby shop called it). Has a 13 turn limit so the AI should handle a 19 turn easyly!!!

If your not planning to race, Tower Hobbies has some 4200 with Deans for $44.99 plus shipping

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNCR2&P=0

One of the guy's I race with has two and they work good for him!

Says its a LRP super reverse digital Ai. If it can handle it then why would it being dropping speed so fast like that?

I also read about my old stock motor and it said that it is a 17t but do you think that this new motor draws more current?

Did you change the gearing? Probably not is mu guess. You will need to goto a smaller pinion gear with a more powerful motor, the T4 RTR is already overgeared as it is out of the box no less. The reason you are loosing power is probably because you are overheating the motor, if this is the case the motor probably needs new brushes already.

Just got the motor, put 2 batteries through it so far. It never really got that hot. I think I am running a 20 tooth gear. What should I be running, a 19 or 18 tooth?

check the brushes anyway one could be hung up, might have overheated depending on your spur gear too. im running a 18 tooth 87 spur combo on a chameleon 2 pro

That will have a BIG impact on run time and motor temps!
