Default 2 Gear diff setup 2wd buggy

I'm just getting back into RC after a long break. I picked up an AE RC10B6.4 and am going to be running at Beachline Raceway in Florida. Indoor carpet off road track. I've seen several of the setup sheets state 2 gear diff with thick fluid (80k and 200k). I've found barely any information on this setup so hoping some people can shed some more light. One of the statements I saw said that the plastic crosspins won't work, and aluminum is needed. I'm running a 17.5T stock class so unsure if that holds true or not. I put the diff together last night, hoping to get some run time starting next week.

If anyone has feedback on the 2 gear diff setup please drop it here.

There's a fair bit of info on the various B6.* threads about this, though I'm not sure how best you search for it... RogerM has explained it a few times (among others) if that helps narrow it down.

Personally I think those oils are high for the B6 diff...I was running 2 gear with 10k oil in mine and absolutely loved it. (EOS carpet, Schumacher tyres)

I agree it seems awful thick, but these are both pro setups from my actual track. That's another reason I'd like more feedback. I saw Roger's post giving a rough overview of what the behavior is but I was hoping a dedicated thread would get some more discussion.

Dirt oval stock motor (21.5/17.5/13.5) IF using a gear diff vs ball diff, 2-gear is the way to go in most cases ... if you search Amain for 'gear diff cross pins' you will find the various solid pins which is what you are after ... the B6 gear diff (91703) was the last one to use metal cross pins (same as 5 series), but they had the notch to overlap the 2nd cross pin ... I have used one of these with no issue, but the solid cross pin in a 2-gear set-up is better for sure over the stock plastic X ... I think I was using 5-7K

I just did this - I used 1 of the ASC92322 pins with only 2 of the gears, and 100K diff fluid. Works great! Feels much better than the stock setup (4 gear 30k)

EDIT: Just realized you are talking about a B6.4 (not a b7), I can't say if that part number will work but a lot of people say the diffs are the same just different outdrives.
Looks like you could use the TeamBrood pins

Our B6 pins work in the b6.1 and up diffs no problem. Aluminum Solid units, no flex to bend or snap the pin and you can fit more oil over the setup using 2 pins or the plastic pin unit.

B7 owners can use our pins as well, just grab the b74 units we sell, as they work without modification in the b7 diff.

Lower weight and lower rotating mass is part of it.

In a Schumacher, the 2 gears help rotate the car better and square up to the straight. It is all I run in my cars.
RogerM and staiguy like this.
