The thing is, 99% of the on-road racing in this country is either stock or super stock. So why are we eliminating one of those, yet keeping things like modified around? Here's how races should go in this country:
Required Classes
Stock Sedan
Super Stock Sedan
Stock 1/12
Super Stock 1/12
Classes if Europeans will be there
Modified Sedan
Modified 1/12
Funster/Fringe Classes (Based on local popularity)
WGT
VTA
F1
Instead we've got a bunch of old guys that remember the glory days of mod, back when it was the speed of 13.5, trying to revive it on tiny little carpet tracks. That's their big vision? Whatever.

Classes for all of these races is a funny thing...regardless someone will be unhappy. I am not surprised to see a bunch of different classes for Carpet Nats, but Honestly maybe the worst choice of classes I have seen in a long time.
My view on the world would be very different:
Standard Nationals Classes on-road:
Modified Sedan
Super Stock Sedan
Stock Sedan
Modified 1/12th scale
Super Stock 1/12th scale
Stock 1/12th scale
You have to have classes like Modified (since this is the only class that is common throughout the world) to qualify drivers for IFMAR worlds...
All other classes should be left for club level racing only. WGT, VTA, and F1 at a national level race is just plain old dumb! ROAR and Mike's really dropped the ball here and as such will probably see lower attendance. ROAR needs to take more ownership of their races and ensure that the classes are consistent from race to race. This is part of the reason why no one likes ROAR. Every time I defend ROAR they go and do stupid stuff like this. Until they start listening and watching the attendance trends at the big US races then they are not getting anymore money from me.
With flights being so expensive and the fact that they are going to try and cram four or five days of racing into three is gonna suck. To be honest I am not sure what in the planning of carpet Nats was right from my perspective. I really wanted to go to this race, but they are sure making it hard to be excited about it. I have not totally ruled it out, but it is not looking very good right now.

I'm pretty sure the rules prevent you from running 17.5 sedan and mod sedan. Even that I'm not fond of. When you spend $1000+ to attend a big race, and you're waiting 6 hours between rounds, a second class (or two) you can make the A-main in isn't so bad.
I might be eyeing a race in Seattle around the same time. We'll see. I hear a couple of their guys are contemplating joining us.

I love the fact that you touring car guys see wgt as a "fringe" or "funster" class. 1/10 pan cars have been around a hell of a lot longer than touring cars. And it seems to be the touring car classes that started all this because 13.5 was too close to mod. Blah blah blah.

WGT isn't as popular around the country as it is here. Mikes hasn't seen one hit the track in over a year, yet they've got 30 guys showing up for VTA. That's all I meant. I happen to think WGT is cool, and I appreciate the groove they create. But it's not a mainstay of onroad like 1/12 or sedan.

i agree that every track is different, and different tracks have different niches. hell, look at omaha. one of the sweetest facilities in the country and pretty much all they run is mini and vintage.
the classes at nats dont bother me at all because they are running what i run. but i do see how the choice to leave out a middle class is a problem for you guys. look at dumper if he want to go, he has to run mod. the same way i dont want my government telling me what to do with MY stuff, i dont think its right for roar to tell me what i HAVE to race.
unfortunatly, i think this decision is going to hurt this race and that is not good for on road, but there are other races. i just booked tickets to go to the race in north dakota........ they had 60 blinky 1/12 last year.
