I have a few good pics of Jason and Lewis and an AE86 drifting in the RC drifter's race. See if I can upload it from my camera phone.

I was doing really well in the drift race until about the 3rd qualifier. That's when my ABS pipes started 'gripping' to the track. the carpet combined with most likely all that traction compound made my ABS pipes super soft (they were almost like rubber tires!!). had to change my style to compensate, but that meant no longer pulling huge long drifts along that big right sweeper without smacking into a board.

Just wanna give a shout out to all the drifters who came out. It was a fantastic race, and a lot of showmanship!

Default What a weekend!

Well I have to say that DTP 2006 rocked! The drifting was awesome with lots of real nice moves by everyone and we got a lot of good reaction from the crowd. Somehow I think we're going to see a lot more drifters in the future. For those of you having problems with your ABS getting sticky: it's a build up of track crap plus the heat from the drifting. You've got two options, switch sets half way through the day or find some roughish concrete (driveways are good) and run the car at high speed for 5-10 min to scrape the tires off.

I'm currently compiling a drift video, my first cut is up to 3:45 and I haven't added in the main event yet. If anyone cares to lend me a copy of video editing software that DOESN'T SUCK like mine please do!

Running mod for the first time was interesting. Thanks to Jesse for lending me the 10 turn, and thanks to Alfred for the use of the speed control - I'll get you that diode as soon as I can man! Other than the diode I had a pretty good night, meaning that I didn't really brake anything (unlike in practice on friday!) and actually finished all the races. As an added bonus I even managed to not be too big a roadblock to everyone else! lol.

Now I just can't wait for the last TCS and then the Big Chill!

Hey gang long time no hear. Wanna give you guys a special invite down to the FW Freedom Fair Race the 4th on the water. You guys had a blast last year. Can't beat the scenry and the price is free, as many classes as you want. The only cost is bring some food to share for the potluck and the $15.00 (US) cost for the special parking pass. No limit to how many in a car. You can email me at [email protected] with your class car # Freq. and PT#(if you have) and how many parking passes you need, and I can pay for them and collect from you at the race. You need to do this ASAP.

Current classes being run for sure are: Novice gas and elect., elect. stock, elect. 19T, elect. open mod, open gas.

If we get 5 or more racers we will have the Le Mans class, ( any elect. car that doesn't fit in any other class, 8min race). Mark and I are running open gas. We will run our 103 gts in the Le Mans if enough are signed up.

I think the ABS tires would work really really well if it was smooth concrete we were on. I was totally unprepared for carpet. I think, as Serandin said, switching to another set of ABS tires would've worked pretty well. I tried scratching up my tires on the smooth concrete in BC place, but I guess it didn't do a good enough job. I think in this case electrical tape was the answer. Will have to note next time

All in all, it was great racing. Gotta love all those pimped-out, LED-glaring drift bodies!

Jonathan, I ran well rounded virgin abs for the last qualifier and the main. Jason ran used abs the whole time. The electrical tape was ok, overall a bit smoother driving, but a little too sticky once traction picked up. I'm keeping this set of abs clean (no asphalt) for the next time we do drift on carpet. It picked up a little carpet crud, but mostly stayed shiny.

As for who was doing best, well, a better idea of how well we're doing would help us improve and a final ranking would have been nice. Something for next time. Even so it was lots of fun.

A big thanks to the Overgeared Racing guys who made it all work.

that's fantastic hopefully I'm around during the next few races. drop me a PM too we'll talk.

It would be cool to see a ranking board, but I guess it's really subjective as to who drifted better. That being said, despite wanting to take home the trophy, I think Jason definitely deserved it for pulling some nice consistent drifts.

Regardless of who won and what not, it was a great fun time. Again thanks for all the sponsors for the great time! And hope to see all you drifter's again. I wanna do some one on one battles

Default Drift Video

A video of the drift event is now available on my website. I didn't have last names for most of the drivers and just putting first names in the credits looked dumb so Kimmy made up some nicknames.

Enjoy.

Hey Trent, where are the photos man!?

Default I could ya

I wanted to do more slow mo but the clip is already over 6 minutes so I figured I'd limit my use of that. I'll be doing more videos as the year goes on so they'll be lots of oportunity for slow mo action.

Hey Guys,

Finally got those photos posted on-line! Visit the "Event Coverage" section on http://www.vmar.ca to get a look. I left them pretty large scale in case anyone wants high res versions for posterity.
