Hi Pommy,
Here is an explaination on why this is from a different thread.
Hope that helps explain why. And for the insurance reasons, it is only common sense they ban them.

They are illegal (i.e not approved by the relevant electricity authorities) and if you use one and there is a problem (i.e your house, or the clubrooms, or something burns down) then your Insurance will NOT cover it.
Or even worse if there is a problem and someone gets electrocuted (there are some dodgy conversions done on these that I've seen) then you are in BIG trouble.
I know it sounds melodramatic but its true.
Use one at your own risk. I'd strongly advise that you don't.

Power Supply
Hey Kev
You can share my power supply, it can support 3 chargers.
Sunday's my last day! You gotta come down and laugh at my driving ability!

Power Supplies
Comments retracted. Naturally they can be a hazard if improperly adapted, as I am qualified in electronics engineering I sometimes forget not everybody does it properly. I still believe PC power supplies are among the safest available if adapted properly. Hence I am having mine certified for use in Australia. Best not to jeapodise insurance for our club.

I am having my power supply checked and tagged by an electrician qualified to do so, thus making it legal to plug into the Australian power grid. So if we finish on time I'll race at Ryper after the interclub.

I love the fire extinguisher in the back ground of the photo. Are we expecting a problem with the power supply Kev?

You can never be too safe when I am around!!! Also comes in handy when storing motors for these:
