Default Great support from Hobbywing

I emailed Angelo with some questions about my Xerun v2.1 and he replied within 5 minutes, with all the right answers.

Great customer service makes life so much easier.

Thanks.

Default Hobbywing v2.1 and 13.5T touring car

Hi Angelo,

Thanks for the advice last week.

I ran with the following setup in my Xray T2:

13.5t Orion VST Pro, end bell timing set to zero (centre mark)
Hobbywing Xerun 120A v2.1 with the STOCK firmware
All default settings for the ESC
FDR 5.95
Running temps 60-70 degrees

I am still getting used to the extra speed. That could take a while.

I raced against a very helpful bloke from Melbourne who suggested I get a heat sink and fan. He had a bit more pace on the straights, but really got me with his consistent lines.

Does anyone have and idea of a durable fan because the fans on these suck compared to other esc's

I have 2 hobbywing 120 a v 2.1 speed controllers that i have used happily for 12months .

1 Started showing problems a while ago "you need to turn the wheels of the car for the motor and speedo to work , once the motor is going the throttle works fine , when the motor stops , it wont start again unless you push it."

My second speed controller is doing the same thing now , tried diferet motors 13.5, 10,.5 and 4 turn all do the same.

Its as though the esc isnt picking up the timing of the motor unless you give it a push

are both the esc broke ,

Well, for the 1st time in 20 years of racing RC's, I managed to reverse my battery leads and plug in my V3.1 Stock Spec!

1 - Did not turn on the ESC

2 - Saw smoke coming from the caps

3 - Took ESC apart, nothing looks black/burnt

Do I just need to replace the caps or is the ESC done? I only had 15 minutes of run-time on it to top it off!

I posted this question in the other HW Tech Support Thread as well, I spent hours trying to call them and just kept getting hung up on. I e-mailed them and still no response.

So, is it possible to repair a Xerun 150A esc somewhere? Does hobbywing have a same kind of support as Castle has?

It appears the bearings have gone out on my HW 4700kv motor - about 3 months old. Does HW warranty these or are they rebuildable?
Thanks......

Punch rate swich point : This setting defines the point in the forward throttle position at which the punch rate changes. ( thats from the HW book on the V3.1 ) What does this mean and how does it work?? i am not understanding this punch rate sw point stuff
i have mine set at 40 thats the defalt setting.

on the program box you have punch rates which point 2A after that first stage Punch second stage Punch these are 1 through 30 2A is 1through 99 what does 2 A mean ? I understand first stage and second stage punch rate what does 2A mean I see on the setup sheets they have it at 1 percent thank you.

Switch point defines where the change between the first and second punch stages occur, in relation to throttle position. So if 2A is set at 50%, the first punch rate stage occurs up to 50% throttle, then the second stage above 50%.
It's useful for higher powered motors, where generally you want the initial throttle to be a bit less grunty, but still maintain good punch on higher speed sections.
