Ok i just thought id get a bit of a conversation going regarding helles park.

Some people like it some dont like it im just curious to know how many people would race ELECTRIC there if they were to use the shortned version there??

Some people say is boring for stock but i think we would have to agree that it is by far the best track we have sydney if not Australia.

So the question is if they used the shorther version track who would race there?? And who wouldnt and Why???

I have raced there twice and i know for a fact that their attitude sucks. Racing should be fun, find somewhere fun to race and forget hells... As for the track, it is boring to drive (stock/mod) regardless of how good the facilities are.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the John Grant International Raceway at Helles Park.

It might help if you guys would give us an example, of this attitude that sucks.

I have been racing there for 7 years and find it enjoyable. Sure there has been some dickheads there over time, but you get that at any RC track, nitro or electric.

The guys that are currently running the track and anyone that I know that races there try to make people that come along to feel welcome.

Bad mouthing this track and the people that race there, is of no benefit to our hobby or anyone for that matter.

I am not having a go at anyone, though if you want to give any strength to what you are claiming, maybe you could provide some details. Not something that happened 3 or 4 years ago either, something a little more recent would be good.

The track may not be ideally suited to electric racing, though after all, it was originally designed with nitro racing in mind and 1/8th scale at that.

If you have not been out to Moorebank recently, maybe your attitude will change if you give it a try.

It does seem that no matter how the club is run at Moorebank, the people who don’t bother to come and give it a go can’t help but be critical and label the club and its members.

It would be good to see more people give racing at Moorebank a try.

The attitude at Moorebank is changing. There is a few new heads on the commitee & the sh#t bag elitest thing is on the way out. I havent personaly raced there since the 03 NSW titles & I swore I would never return. But in the last 2 months or so things have picked up. I know a few of the guys behind the changes & things like beginers days are back and new guys arent being treated like dirt. I will give it another go out there when I get time. I think they worked out they had to change as they were getting bugger all entries on there club days & a carpark track in Penrith is pulling 70 to 80 drivers (nitro only) every week. The facilitys at Penrith compared to Helles are crap but the attitude is great.

In reply to Craig1 (you must have submitted you post while I typed mine) One example that really pissed me off was at the 03 NSW titles, apart from the organisation of the event being a farce, & this is taking the rain into consideration. When the presentation was held all the top ten guys got their trophys, and because of a computer glitch everyone else had to wait around.
I have no problem with that as computers are like that. What I did have a problem with was a prominant member of the club passing comment about "all the bottom feeders waiting around for their paper weights" It was said in a manner I took offence to.
What made it worse was after waiting an hour we were told to go home & we would have to come & pick up our paper weights at the next club day. So next club day I went out to get it & went to the secretary (ex I belive) and was not given 30 seconds of his time & told "I dont know where they are" Not good enough in my opinion. The trophy which I still dont have would have meaning to me regardless of my finishing position as it was my first major race event & a momento from it would be nice. In saying that one of the new heads is trying to locate it for me which I appreciate so hopefully the tide has turned. There was also good people at the titles from the Moorebank club but the the arrogant pricks stick in the mind a lot longer.

some people say this because it is a hard track to master. they hide their inability to race well after one meet there behind the "it's the attitude thing"

other people have honestly had bad experiences and brush ins with members VERY SENIOR MEMBERS! this is very disapointing. i won't mention who these members are but i know it is only MAX, 2 people.

honestly people it is the racers and the organisation that make the track. for example rooty hill. let's be honest it's a shithouse surface BUT! the organisation of the meetings is as smooth as a ultrasonicly cleaned nitride bearing lubed with mobil 1, AND the racers are quick! penrith, from what i've been told is the same with possibly a finer surface, except it is more of a beginners track, (which there is nothing wrong with. i mean it in a positive sense).

moorebank is a great track. the best track layout, setup, computer system, pit area in NSW. PERIOD! and it's a fact. that's why the state titles for nitro are held there.

to all the nitro guys who have never been there.....go there. if you honestly race nitro for the competition, if you honestly race nitro as a challenge, if you are in the nitro hobby to see how you perform under pressure come race at moorebank.

were else will you be able to race every fortnight against:

-rick bartolozzi (state champ)
-wayne walker (state champ)
-alex koussas (state champ)
-darrin campbell (state champ)
-stewart grant (state champ)
-lee dytor
-kyle hazzell
-corry ventouris
-mike noak
-andrew bardetta (state champ?)
-tommy lee
-david chen
-simon nicholson (state champ?)
-jason sawtell
-craig hawkins (state champ)
-dallas gardiner (state champ)
-jarrod pace
-myself (state legend! )
(before anyone spaz attacks these names are on the moorebank website!, CHILL)
and a whole host of drivers who when on the mark can enter the A finals
you can't race these guys on a club day anywere else.
only during big events can you compete against them at EC. summernuts and winternuts that's it. racing these guys WILL improve you driving. racing WITH THESE GUYS means a wealth of knowledge just one pit table down.

(my opinion) EC is THE track for electric. moorebank is THE track for nitro, period.

there is no attitude, just focused hobbyists who will not help you if you don't ask. not because they don't want to, but because they expect you to approach them. rick B won't be walking the pits asking if you need help, he has 1;8th and a tourer to run. but when i needed help tunning my motor and setting the clutch, i asked, and he helped, until the problem was solved. i've experienced the same at EC with the electric guys. they aren't walking the pits helping newbies, but when i asked for help at EC i got it

there are heaps of EC newbs at moorebank comming now. it's only a matter of time now, people will realise there is no attitude. come and race.

wombat, coxy, BK, bvercoe. i summons the electric/nitro hybrids to a friendly challenge next meet. bring 45/42 shore.

there is also a outlaw day which is being run by mr tl2111 on the 5th sunday of febuary. it will be a:

ELECTRIC AND NITRO DAY

this has not yet been totally confirmed but it was announced at the start of the last race meet on the 15th this month by the clubs secretary.

i have run my brushless around moorebank with my old evo3. it has a internal ratio of 2.6, new untrued foams and a 22 tooth pinion and a 76 tooth spur. this was enough to give it as much top end as a .12 s3. maybe just a few clicks under.

tommy can you confirm if this is occuring still?

ps: sometimes people foster and promote a bad image because it is to their clubs advantage. sometimes they do it because there are legitimate grounds for it. both cases used to apply for moorebank. but like water under a bridge, the grudges people hold, and the reason they give may not be valid anymore. ask yourself who you hold a grudge against, AND ARE THEY STILL THERE?

WOW Thomas, a couple of well thought out posts, Congratulations. I hope the Moorebank club can rebuild itself with the right people and attitudes at the top, a great facility for its intended purpose, and a shame to see it laying around dormant.

I have raced nitro there a couple of times, and it was not too bad, one good thing for me was going flat full noise through the sweeper, its quite a rush.

I have been there twice... once just before mecca 1 2002 and mecca 1 2002.

I would say the track is far from hard to master.. a bad exit line from almost any corner on the track has almost no impact on performance through the next turn, stock or mod. I just found the track very easy to drive....hey i got 5th in mecca with a tamiya ta03r!!!!

The mecca meet there was a bit of a joke. There was constant abuse from race directors ordering people to hurry up and do this and do that. Then at the end of they day they tried to claim that it was the only way to run a meet.

I hope for the club members sake that this is not normal but then again this was a few years ago. Apart from the track, the facilities are better than most (wheres the toilet?) but i think the track is a little easy for elec guys.

For Nitro the track is fine and very rewarding....

for electric TC's (the premier RC class thats matters) the track is as boring as bat stitt, too easy, too wide.

Lilydale in Melbourne...now thats a track.
