Mate, I did the same thing at Templestowe.

Normal logic is that when you are getting understeer or push you would go softer in spring. However you get to a point in surface grip where logic swings the other way and going harder results in more steering :weird:

I remember Simon told me to go harder on the front and I was reluctant to try it and wasted 3 qualifiers trying other things, went to it in the last qualifier and the car was the best it ever was lol.

Lol ... in hindsight can see that now... was very frustrating at the time as the car had great infield punch and straight line speed.

Thanks again for help mate.

Hey james,

I was still running the one-way at bendigo on the weekend:blush: Still fun but a bit of a handful.......until it drizzled and greased the track, then the car was on rails!!!! I'm telling ya, worn tyres, oneway, RDX Phi, wet weather weapon:nod: Almost caught Wicksy in that race too:D

Spool is the go though Dave, even more fun for drifting.

Hi Guys,
Having not long taken possession of a phi 09, I was wondering about a few points. Considering I'm pretty new to asphalt racing:
Is a spool necessary?
What is the chassis base point before you make tuning adjustments?

I set up all the linkages as per the book and it looked all out of whack. Massive amount of positive camber front and back. way too much toe-in at the front. Are the dimensions in the book centre of cup to cente of cup or overall length?

Can I take the angular settings from my jrxs and use them as a base point? I plan on giving the phi a run this sunday at a local club meet, but would prefer to get somewhere near a reasonable setup before I arrive.

Thanks in advance,
Thom

Hi Thom,

If you take a look at post 478 on the previous page, I have posted my set up for Asphalt with link positions and also camber settings. These are the settings I used to win the S.A Stock Titles the other month and also set the fastest time of day at the Boronia VIC interclub in 17.5 the other weekend.

Also in the set up is the use of a spool, I found the oneway in the 09 made the car difficult to drive and a spool also gives you control under braking where the one way does not.

If you have any questions fire away, hope the above set up helps.

Cheers,
James

James,

On applying the below mentioned droop settings I notice this results in some pre-load on the springs ... is this what you have found ? Would this be OK?

PS: I have the suspension block couplers set in the 'up' position, this could be contributing to the pre-load.

Thanks, Alan

Alan,
..... I would also suggest trying different droop settings. maybe 4.0 & 3.5

I normally adjust shock lengths to suit droop, you may need to wind the eylet up or down.

I set my droop with shocks off first and then adjust length to suit but making sure that each side is the same length.

Thanks James, I've got a good starting point now. The rest is up to me, god help us all!

Cheers

Does anyone know if longer (than kit) shock ends are available for the Phi ?

Thanks

No only the std ones. I unscrew mine a couple of turns for more travel.

There is also a lower shocktower you can use #79744

G'day Guys,

Finally raced the the new car the other day and not having raced touring car for sometime this was awesome. I've only got a basic setup, enough to get it around the track, and I'll start to play with the setup this week. Glad I waited to buy it, got to say it's the best car I have owned to date.

Hmmmm...Are you talking about the Phi or the Phi 2?

Bill
