Who took photos of the track at 9:30 PM? We need to see the pics to verify this claim!!!
I doubt those sleepers would float, and
Although we killed one of their kind, I formed a pact with the funnel webs that if the heavens opened they would run out of their burrows and hold the sleepers in place!
St Ives did get smashed though, at least Gordon did - heavily smashed... heaviest rain we've had in a few weeks for a solid half hour. I hope the retainers are still in situ.
What is interesting though was your assessment of the sand on the surface today. When I went down for the first time last weekend there wasn't any visible sand on the new surface but after rain there is. One must assume that the rain somehow helps leech the sand particles out of the clay. This could be a good thing. If/when we decide to roll the track again we should clean the surface back really well and then roll it. No point pressing the sand back into the surface eh?

That's actually a really good idea. Perhaps we could put in some fabricated concrete drain with a grate along the concrete under the drivers' stand.

My pleasure mate. I think we did some good work! I'm pretty knackered...
I strongly doubt it due to a few issues:

It wasn't pretty. I went up at 9.30 to check the track and the water was about 2 inches under the Silt fencing. And a few of the sleepers had been lifted up and floating on top. It is not going to be easy today to repair the damage.

yeah waz we can only hope the sand content come up and gets washed away. Ill bet a lot got washed away last night.
I agree we need to blow most of it away before re-rolling.
We have a coupe of strategies to combat the sand but will need to test it out to see if it works.

Ben the bottom corner should now fill level (in theory!)
As Ben said we have discussed a few options yesterday and today is combat the self sanding after the downpour. The track has really copped a hammering, not just the ordinary sprinkle. A diversion across the top of the track is going to decrease the problem heaps. Probably not so much a drain, moreso a barrier to divert the water around the track, definitely the easiest (and probably most effective) option. With the proposed other binding options the sand could actually be in our favour enabling the binding agent to get into the surface and deep.
Next priority, MORE DIRT!

Definitely a great wall.
We should have a name for the wall.
And.... I reckon the off camber corner around the tree stump should be named "Panic Corner"
