How many in the A final of Mod at tamworth on the week-end were running brushless motors and what brands? Congrats to the Qld boys.

Just to put my 2 cents worth, after seeing the Novak GTB with 4.5t motors running at the hobbystation Invitational & the Tamworth Cup I would have too say their top end speed is awesome. However I also noticed at Tamworth Cup that the units can shut down due to thermal overload and the lack of protective shielding for the cooling fan is a definate problem.

You would think that as the unit must be able to sense the build up of heat it should be able to reduce the power output as a result, I could not think of anything more frustrating than watching your car just stop, because you made a gearing error or the fan was jammed by debris.

I have gone with the LRP system mainly because of the ability to switch between brushed and brushless motors (great for when I want to run in the 19t spec motor class) without the need to make any adjustments to the speed controller. Plus my understanding of the ICE temp control feature is that ESC will sense any overload/heat build up and regulate the power to the motor accordingly,so at least if you make a gearing mistake you can finish the race. Coupled with the units ability to detect when a Li PO battery is attached and regulate output so that the battery is not damaged due to overuse then I feel this system will offer racers a small degree of future proof technology that will hopefully see them thru the next phase of Battery upgrades that R/C racers are about to decide upon.

Needless to say I am a total fan of brushless systems, although as a newbie to Mod on-road racing, I will be the first to admit that the power they offer is a bit scary. But geez when you can get the power down on the straight what a rush!!! Plus wont it be nice to only have to keep a couple of brushless motors & maybe 2/3 Li Po packs to get thru a race meet!!

Gotta say though that mounting the LURP/ Nosram is much simpler than mounting the GTB, that thing has wires exiting all over the place.

is the nosram motor can shorter than a 5.5/4.5? it looks short on the car, doesn't seem to hang out. o maybe it's just the picture?

But, you do need skill, you cant buy it... so not sure what you will do...

i run the novak ss5800 system, at my local track, and i love it. iam only draining around 1100mah in a 4min heat which is pretty good. they so effiecnt, and no maintence is great. no heat build up, well very little.
