TSR6: have you tried using better double sided tape. The tape that came with it isn't the best. You said yours wouldn't stick to the radio, funny thing is that mine stuck great to the radio, but not to the foam.

So I actually have the foam glued to the tape, and the tape is using its own adhesion to stick to the radio. If it does fall of though, I will just glue the foam directly to the trigger.

Did you use any of the grip tape. I didn't really need it. The radio feels great in my hand.

TSR6 02-15-2002 03:53 PM

Darksied - The foam stuck for a very short amount of time, then fell off while doing a radio test... I have never accully run it with the foam still on. I have a brand new foam to put on, somewhere, but im not all that worried about it.

I used one layer of the grip tape. I only use it because my hand sweats when i drive sometimes, and the tape keeps my hand nice and comfy.

Darkseid 02-16-2002 06:32 AM

I have the same problem. Especially when it gets really hot during racing season. Thats why I kept the tape. I thought about my hands sweating, and figured I'd use the tape if I needed to. My old radio(3PDF) had rubberized grips at the back, so the sweaty palms syndrom wasn't an issue.

Tres 02-16-2002 09:33 AM

I used some foam from a Losi battery pad.....

It's been on for over 6 mo....from 110 to 20 deg.....

Works great....

One thing to remember is to clean the trigger before you put the foam on it....The plastic will have some release agent(oil) from the mold left on it....

Yeah, That is the only reason i really put it one, to get away from the plastic.

I accually like the original yellow grip tape better than teh new black stuff. The only thing i did not like about the yellow tape, is it obviously got very dirty after a couple weeks. :D

Hey guys, my hitec 605mg servo case broke at the top in the inside where the middle gear set shaft mounts. I go the servo in 2000 and wonder if its stil under warrenty and if changing the servo wire lead kills the warrenty or not?

Tres 02-18-2002 05:01 PM

Do you still have the receipt?

I bought an HS81 plastic gear servo for my micro and the gear set stripped, so I got a metal one to replace it. I installed it, and now it wont center, it is very noisy sometimes, and isnt very precise. Is there a difference in the HS81 and HS81mg other then the gear set? Or did I possibly get a bad servo.

Tres 02-20-2002 04:53 AM

Mobil1_2001: the diference is the gear set..

I would send it in and have it checked out.....

Darkseid 02-20-2002 10:40 AM

TSR6: ewwwww, yellow grip tape. I'm glad they did switch the color, just in case I do have to use it!:D

Darkseid 02-20-2002 11:02 AM

My first test with the Lynx3D had its ups and downs.

First, the XXtra was glitching where I had it mounted(the exact same place I had my XXL mounted without it glitching ever) So I wasn't happy with that at all. It was unexpected after reading so many reviews of how the XXtra did not glitch. Considering its about twice as big as the XXL, it should be shielded just as well. I had to swap the positions of my electronics around to solve the glitch. Disappointing!:(

Then, I went out to practice with the radio voltage at about 10.8v or maybe 11v. I started practicing at about 12noon and by 2:30, the radio was beeping and the battery was low! This was with typical on/off usage during practice. I charged the thing up almost the whole next day. The radio showed about 11.9v I think. Buy the next morning, with the radio never being turned on, the radio showed 10.8v and falling! What the hell? How am I going to make it through a typical race day 8:30-4pm with the battery dumping so fast. Usually, we have AC availible at the parkinglot track, but it isn't garaunteed. So will I make through a race day if I can't charge it up while I'm there?

Anybody else have this problem? Is it that I have not given it a full charge yet? What does the voltage show at when the radio is fully charged?

Well, at least while it was charged, it worked flawlessly. I never even noticed it in my hands. Perfect feel. It controlled my two other cars(one with a XXL, the other with a Futaba R113F) perfectly with no glitches at all.

But this battery thing has me concerned, I hope its just that I haven't charged it up well enough.:weird:

Tres 02-20-2002 11:54 AM

My batteries will make it a full race day without any issues.....
3 heats and a main with 3 classes...plus some practice.???

I charge them at 1A on a CG-335....

Are the batteries warm after you get done charging them?

That is one thing I have noticed, is that the DCX rx will operate better with lower Tx batteries than the Xxtra....DCX is also dual conversion....

newracer 02-20-2002 01:13 PM

maybe your pack just needs to be cycled a few times, personally I switched my pack to a higher mah one because we run some 45 minute lemans races. but even with the stock pack was getting a full days worth of racing, 2 classes, 3 heats, mains and practice

I also got the dry cell battery tray just to have a back up.

Darkseid 02-20-2002 01:23 PM

Tres: nope, they aren't warm. I left them on the wall charger for almost the entire day and they never did get warm. Should I just make an adapter so I can charge them with my peak charger. I can take the charger all the way down to .5A if I need to.

newracer: yeah, I was considering buying the dry cell holder as back up. Just to be safe.

newracer 02-20-2002 01:31 PM

I think that right after being charged the volts read about 11.2, they quickly drop to around 10.6 and stay there for a long time. Mostly I use the wall charger but I have an adapter to use one of my other charges sometimes. Usually charge at 1 amp.

I have a question about the dry cell holder. The batteries barly fit in it, it bends out the sides and then the tray barely fits into the radio, is this normal?

Darkseid 02-20-2002 02:30 PM

newracer: thats exactly what I needed to hear. I was wondering why my pack would plumit through the volts right after being charged, then stabilize.

I just made an adapter for my charger and charged the pack @.5A. It took only a few minutes to completely charge the pack(It was a little over half full already) and toped out @ 12.23 volts.

Everything is cool with me now. With the adapter I just made, I can charge the pack even if I don't have any AC availible. I will stick with what the manual suggest though, and use the wall charger unless I have to charge the pack in a hurry.

Darkseid 02-20-2002 07:55 PM

newracer: where did you find a suitable higher mah pack for the Lynx? Who was it made by? Did you have to change the connector to use it with the Lynx3D?

600mah is pretty weak, but hey, at least the radio came with the battery pack. The pack I bought for my 3PDF is only 500mah, but that radio doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the Lynx3D.

Gary Fliegel 02-20-2002 09:29 PM

I built up a 1600 mAh Nimh for my lynx. I just picked up a connector from the LHS that is the same as the one on my factory pack. My factory pack is 2 years old and will run for around 1.5 to 2 hours in my lynx before it starts to beep. Remember that it is still a nicad pack and needs to be treated as such. Every once in a while pull it out and cycle it, this will keep the cells at peak performance longer. I usually cycle the pack 3 times throughout a year. I charge it at .5 amps and discharge it a 1 amp. They still give out over 600 mah when i do the cycle on them. Also 8 nicads are rated at 9.6v for output, so it won't be suprising to see the voltage go down and level off around 10.5v and work its way down from there. TTYL.

newracer 02-20-2002 09:33 PM

I also built mine, I only used 950 mah because I got a really good deal on them, just bought a connector to match. If I was to do it again I'd get some good nimh cells

www.sunnbattery.com has some good deals

Darkseid 02-21-2002 07:38 AM

newracer/Gary F: thanks for the info. I was considering building one myself if I couldn't find a prebuilt one I could just change the leads on.

Now that I think about it though, I was just out at RadioShack the other week, and saw some nice 1600mah NiMH cells that would be perfect for a Tx pack. Those would give me higher mah, and the benefits of NiMH technology. I think I'll start picking up the stuff I need this weekend.

Darkseid 02-21-2002 07:41 AM

Oh, I forgot to ask. Did you guys shrink wrap the cells into one solid pack, like the factory pack? If so where'd you find the shrink wrap to fit it?

newracer 02-21-2002 07:57 AM

I think I used standard (sub-c cells) stick pack shrink wrap from my LHS. Used a small drop of goop to hold the cells together. Get cells that have solder tabs already on them.

Darkseid 02-21-2002 08:16 AM

newracer: I just checked the link you put up. The prices they have on their 1600 NiMH ("AA") cells are like $8 cheaper than RadioShack! I've never had any of the Nexcell's or GoldPeak's. Have you ever used them. Do you trust them. If you think their good cells, then I'll definitely go with the sunbatteries place. Those prices just seem amazingly low.

newracer 02-21-2002 08:53 AM

I use the Nexcells in my digital camera. I have two sets (8 cells) and they have performed great over the past year. I have charged them several times and even let them sit for a while between uses with no problems. I haven't tried the Goldpeaks yet. I have been thinking about getting some of the Nexcells for my Tx also.

Tres 02-21-2002 10:08 AM

The Nexcells work great...

Most all NiMH AA's are made by Sanyo....
Just have a different label.....

for a good deal on NiMH 1600mAh AA's checkout:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1333139772

You can also get 1800 mAh for a little more......

JohnA 02-21-2002 03:26 PM

Hi

My transmitter has just developed a fault. The throttle channel only moves the servo about +/- 5 degrees and doesn't return to centre. It's definetly not the settings (EPA or anything) in the steering channel it works fine and I have tried another receiver with the same results. Any ideas what the likely cause is? just developed a fault

Tres 02-21-2002 03:34 PM

JohnA: what model of radio is it?

Tre's.

newracer 02-21-2002 03:35 PM

did you try another servo? most of the time servos go bad not transmitters

is this on a gas car?

if a throttle/brake servos EPA isn't set perfectly it will eventually burn up the servo

JohnA 02-21-2002 05:40 PM

Hi again

It's a KO vantage II (Iknow this is a Hi-Tech Forum, but it's a Hi-tech servo)

It's not the servo, in the steering channel it's fine. Yes this is a gas car. On my electrics the ESC wont set up properly any more so I'm sure it's the transmitter. I have tried different receivers.

Darkseid 02-21-2002 07:34 PM

newracer/Tres: thanks guys. I'm going to start working on building this new pack as soon as I can.

Tres 02-21-2002 08:24 PM

JohnA: ????? I would contact them for repair service...

Darkseid: no problem, let me know how yours works out...

farn 02-21-2002 09:29 PM

Help - I think I fried my dcx!

Don't ask how it happened, but I think I may have fried my dcx. I think I shorted it out when messy with some wires. I tested it with my other xtals/rx and tx and it is pretty much DOA.

So, what should I do next? Trash it or is it repairable?

Gary Fliegel 02-22-2002 12:35 AM

Send it in to our service dept. and get them to look at it. They'll let you know if its repairable.

Off to the World of Wheels car show this weekend. We do a Off-Road race on astro turf. All heats are 8 min long, 6 cell stock motors, and the heats get added up through the entire weekend. He with the most laps at the end is the winner. It my first time racing it in the 11 years I've been involved with it. Been doing the PR and announcing for it all this time. Should be lots of fun. I'll let you guys know how it turns out on Sunday night. TTYL.

I just got a used spectra module but it didn't have the adjustment tool. How can I get one? Didn't see a part number on the website. I know I can just use a little screw driver but I like the clip on.

Tres 02-22-2002 12:25 PM

FYI: I use a small screwdriver...

Darkseid 02-22-2002 12:33 PM

newracer: speaking of that little screwdriver. Where the heck is that thing supposed to clip to anyway?

newracer 02-22-2002 12:46 PM

on your antenna I think:weird:

I guess most of the time I'll be near my pit box so I could just use a screw driver:blush:

Darkseid 02-22-2002 01:31 PM

newracer: thats what I thought when I first saw it, but why would anyone want to put it there?

newracer 02-22-2002 01:47 PM

well if you walk up to the drivers stand with your car/radio and then see what freq's are available you have the tool handy to dial it in.

then it can pop off while you are racing so you can loose it:cry:

Gary Fliegel 02-22-2002 03:31 PM

If you look at the base of your radio you'll see a little knob on top of where the batt tray slides in, thats where you can clip it to. I usually just keep it in my pocket if I know i have to be changing the Freq. on the spectra when I'm at the drivers stand. TTYL.

Gary F.

PS i am crankin laps at 2 sec faster than the next guy, LOL. Only losi in the bunch to boot!!
