I guess Jake got some video of my 6S LiPo going up in flames tonight. We'll have to post it asap. The flame may have been 5-6 feet? Dunno. It was pretty cool though.

If you're thinking of saving a few bucks buying a Zippy.....well, $200 actually.....don't do it!!!! I was super lucky to not have my RC8e go up in flames too. I was fortunatley right there working on my car as the battery started to smoke, then puff majorly, then fireworks show.

I am kinda new to the whole Lipo thing less than a couple months, that was the first time I even heard about that happening. Can anyone tell me the steps I should take to assure that never happens to me? Say if I leave my gear in the car or home?

I would really appreciate it, that is prolly the last thing I need to have happen!

Default Zippys

Friends don't let Friends run zippys! I hate to say I told you so, Mark, but I told you so! Never go cheap on Lipos and always balances the packs, that is how you stop that from happening to you!

Default Zippys

Zippys are a cheap lipo pack. Everyone buys them because the are half the price of the quality manufacturer's packs. But when they flame out like Marks did last night, but it is in your car when it happens, you start wondering why to tried to save $100 as you siffed through the ashes looking for the titanium turnbuckles, because that is the only thing left of your car. Need some help...

So I decided to get the MF1 going again. I had sent a 10x2(Yes running brushed for alittle longer) back to Orion for repair. They sent me back a brand new Ryan C edition 10x1... right now im geared with a 15th pinion and 86th spur...final drive is 13.932. After about 2-3 mins of runnning, it gets pretty hot. I dont want to exactly gear down, but if its normal to go lower for the brushed guys...then how much further down. Also I havent touched the timing on the can either.

Thanks
Any info is appreciated...except "Go Brushless" I will soon.

GO BRUSHLESS! lol just joking but you should as soon as you can , you may be undergeared not overgeared I used to run an 18 on my orion 10-turn in xxx-t with the 86 spur, the general rule for BRUSHED MODIFIED MOTORS in a truck is 8 over the wind meaning your pinion should be 8 teeth higher then the wind of your motor. This applies only to BRUSHED MOTORS and only ones lower then a 15 turn.

I would like to see that video. I had three of 6s1p 5000mah zippy for my heli. It swelled slightly after 40 flights but I had no issues and I know few that had several hundreds of cycles without problems. I would suggest to measure the operation current loading and possibly calculate max current or load spikes that may damage the packs. High current spikes or heat build up is a sure way to smoke a lipo.
