Wow!! I thought the only people who would be upset that the Pro's get 30 minute mains would be the turnmarshalls. I could definitely understand not wanting to turnmarshall for 30 minutes straight. The fact is that the Pro's don't usually have electric cars and mains longer than 15 minutes for the Expert and Sportsman basically makes those guys stay home. This has been discussed before. At large races, is it unfair for the guys in the "A" main to race 45 minutes and those in the lower mains to race 15 minutes?? Maybe the guys in the 10 minute "H" main deserve to get some money back. Either way, if it meant having more people come out to race, I am sure Dan would change things. I didn't mean to blast you karnao, I just don't think it is unfair to anyone except the turnmarshalls.

We will be doing some changes on the track today. They should make for a pretty different feel overall. Hope we can get a good turnout.
There are many factors to how long heats and mains should be and not everyone is going to be happy with it. Look at the differece in qualifying times. As you move from sportsman to pro the time window becomes smaller and smaller and so to open that window a little you add time. At large races they will often have 3 7min. quals. They do this due to the large number of people, which makes the window very small.
The length of the mains is based on the same idea. Racing is about consistancy just as much as it is about speed. This consistancy is what really makes the differece between sportsman, expert, and pro. When competition is tight you add time to create a truely decided winner.
With the addition of electric anything over 15 min is not practical. With technology that should change. Having longer mains now would be like telling them to stay at home.
In the end this sport is supposed to be about having good competition and a great time. At ARC we all really try to make sure that is the case.
