The boost port is supposed to store crankcase pressure and release it during a low cycle during scavenging ( exhaust and intake) this is supposed to help bottom end.. but with the newer motors none of them really need it as port and case configuration have made motors scavenge better! I havent seen this used except in the Hyper since around 2002 ish.. seems phased out however it was popular..

as far as the Hyper it might wind a bit farther.. (RPM) but the .28 should by nature have more torque! wich leaves you gearing up as an option.. He should get slightly better mileage but wont be important unless your racing!

as far as adding a boost port its far more work than gain imo.. you wont need bottom end.

Has anyone used the STS Aluminum 3 shoe clutch for buggy/truggy? I need a new clutch and this one looks like a good deal but I want to know if anyone has used it and what you think about it.

Yeah they are not to bad. they are on about par with other top end shoes. Bang for your buck you can't go wrong. The good thing is that they come with different spring rates wich are great at the track for tuning to the conditions.

Thanks, I will definitely pick up a set. Most aluminum shoes cost twice that much and only come with one set of springs.

i did cold break in on my sts d28 pro 5 port today and while breaking in the motor started to run backwards. meaning motor starts to left then starts running to right . is this bad for it ? has this happened to anyone else.

Aluminum Shoes engage faster than carbon shoes. They last longer too. For like $17 for the STS shoes/springs is a steal, you can barely buy carbon shoes for that plus with the STS shoes you get an extra set of springs.

Congrats and glad you like the new 5 port 28. Mine still the original 3 port and it already awesome. installed on the hpi savage.. it just backflip on the 1st pull

I use WOT (wide open throttle) engine break-in. Still tight as new after few gallons. Just changed the conrod I run-in all my engines using this method. Josh cyrul method by the way.

No, the 40 series tires are too wide for those rims.

I'm glad to hear that the 5 port .28 is running well. I'll have to consider it when I get back into racing truggy more often.

my brother got his hobao hyper 21 race 2.7 hp instead of original hyper 21 with 2.5 , both are 8 ports. my dad has rb 323. a os v spec 21 . a rb c5 21. a rb factory modded c5 21 .a ofna picco max 21 .a power racing 27.a regular hybao hyper 21 8 port. a traxis 3.3 moddod. a os 21with silver crank case . any ways i have a stock xtm 24.7 and the sts d28 pro troggie 5 port. out of all of the motors listed above the sts d28 pro 5 port #2809 is by far the best. it has the most snap off the line and revs like the 21s all day. my dad and brother are cause i beat them all the time . so my brother ordered a jammin jpx28. and my dad ordered a novirossi 528x race. they both want to beat me.
