What sort of gearing do folks start with using a 13.5?

Did HPI release some new bodies for the Cup Racer of have I just not seen them. They have a Mini Cooper and a Lancia Stratos under Option Parts that I don't remember seeing there before.

Thanks, but I looked back a couple of pages and someone else recommended a 6.5 to 7.5 FDR for a 13.5...? I don't normally race brushless and never geared according to FDR when I did race touring car so I'm a little lost here. By my math, a 67 tooth spur and 23 tooth pinion give a FDR of 6.5, but I'm not sure those will even fit as the car isn't in front of me at the moment.

The Mini Cooper was announced about a month ago, the Lancia was just announced a couple of weeks ago. Definitely want the Lancia

Depends on if you use boosted or non boosted esc. IMHO 13.5 with boosted esc is waaay too much power for these little guys.

I need advice on a 13.5t (approx) brushless system
I'm looking at a Novak Havoc 13.5 system
and the Traxxas VXL Velineon system (will the ESC even fit?)

and would this new Castle system work?
1/10 sidewinder SC 3800kv
I know it is designed for short course trucks but it has a lower KV compared to their other systems.

thanks for the help

I was until I got my Exotek front drive cup.
It wasn't fun and the car would do weird things, never consistant. unless you like consistant spin outs lol.

+1 shameless plug for Exotek. Now I just need the Exo cup racer chassis when it's back in stock.

BTW I run mine in the 17.5 boosted class. it's wicked when the boost comes in!!! sounds like a supercharged something crazy!!!

A proper set-up will fix that. Thought I would ask..

setup can make it work. I'd be hesitant to put any heavy power into it. maybe a 21.5 with mild boost.

my experience with RWD wasn't on purpose. it wasn't a fair evaluation since I still had the front diff connected.

Guess I could remove the front axles and the drive shaft and see what it could do. Let us know how it goes. maybe even post your setup after you get it working

yes all esc u mentioned would work but the vxl is capable of 3s lipo and for sure is overkill for this car.....the new kinetic esc from novak are lighter, lower profile, more settings but at a premium price...sidewinder would also work probably the cheapest of the 3 hope this helped u

...so finally completed my CR'r today.
I really intend to post photos of my Porsche CR'r next to my 1:1 Porsche which looks almost identical (I have a red '77 930 turbo which is the same body as the '73 RSR (a few trip pieces are different, but all in all the same car in terms of looks ...my 930 is actually faster than the '73, but I digress).

I am still waiting for a good day to drive both my cars, it's been non-stop rain there ...last time I ran a car in the rain i killed the ESC.

Couple things about my build:

-17t brushed motor (will go w/ this for now)
-Futaba FM reciever/transmitter
-Aluminum shocks all the way around
-Disc brake option
-Full Ball Bearings all around
-some of the optional aluminum parts (turnbuckle, outdrive rings, etc)

I am waiting for the LED light set (it's on back-order), ..also i have a driver figure on order that I plan on painting and putting insde the vehicle. I added exhausts to my body, (created out of styrene). I may create a dash w/ trim as the driver I ordered comes w/ steering wheel (it's the driver from the Tamiya sand scorcher). -am hoping it's the correct size. If not i'll use in another R/C build i am working on.

..i'll post some action shots and ones near my 1:1 Porsche when I can.
