Here is the setup of the car as I received it.
Its a 417 with a smokem deck.

I haven't pulled the shocks appear yet, so any hints for a improved setup on a low grip track will be welcomed

Thanks Phil,
I'll try some of Craig's suggestions and try to shorten the wheelbase.

I would start with this setup - http://www.petitrc.com/reglages/tami..._RROC20130526/.

Then make these changes:
1) Front spool
2) Front blocks C-C
3) Soft rear swaybar

If you are on really low traction and lacking rear grip, remove the toe block shims from the rear blocks and reset your rear droop after that.

Default Bottom deck choice

If got to replace the bottom deck on a 417x.

If you had a choice between a 417x, 417v5 or a 417 smokem deck which would you choose and why?

I've also heard the 417x deck is stiffer than "some".
How do the 3 decks compare in stiffness and is it better to use a softer deck for a low grip concrete track, running 21.5.

Thanks

If you go for the 417v5 deck you will need to buy a floating servo mount, either Tamiya or third party.

When going to different tracks hpw do you guys select your rear diff oil? What does lighter vs heavier oil do?

Heavier oil will make the diff act more like a locked unit.

Lighter oil will give more off power steering (as the diff is more free to spin at unequal rates)

On the flip side, if you are struggling to put power down on corner exit, you need to go up.

Generally, the more power you've got the higher the viscosity of oil you'll need to run too.

The higher the track grip, the lighter you can run the rear oil without "diffing out" (inside/power wheel spinning)

Summary from Hudy!

Thinner
• Increases cornering traction
• Increases steering into corner
Thicker
• Decreases rear traction while cornering
• Reduces wheelspin
