If you find some 2mm 7075, please let me know! Maybe get some of the Seattle racers to bring some to you.
Building the aluminum chassis was a fun project. If this test mule works ok, I'll definitely entertain ordering in some 7075 to make some more.

online metals has 0.08" 7075t6 but shipping from them would be pretty damn horrible. metalsupermarkets has a store here but dont stock the right thickness and i cant find a price so its prob rape as well =\ if i could find 6061 that would be just fine for a prototype chassis..
I need to scan my r1 chassis and copy it in solidworks, cut it on the machine at work. pretty sure our hardened carbide steel tools would go through any grade of aluminum just fine.
but it comes down to having the material. $100 a peice just isn't an option heh. but if enough people were interested, i could look at doing an online metals order and make lke 50 chassis plates.
lemme know how yours works out. throw something meatier than a vta at it as well heh. im running my R1PRO in full mod with a 4.5. i have blakes laptimes and team awsomatix to aspire to heh.
ps, just asked metal supermarkets for a quote on enough aluminum to make 10 chassis plates. ill try to find time to scan and copy the r1 chassis.

I really like aluminum on high traction carpet. On asphalt, it may not be the way to go. Aluminum has so much more torsional rigidity than cf, and since it is thinner, your lipo and electronics sit lower.

This just screams "Kickstarter project".

Ill just have to suck it up and buy a $200 sheet from onlinemetels heh. That ferry ride is like $160 return lol.
I wouldn't expect to sell the plates for what the cf ones go for but if.enough are interested we will see. Ill prob scan my s1 chassis so s1/2 users can also enjoy.

The downside to the s1 chassis is how wide it is. Losing the outer servo mount isn't the end of the world.... the s2 floating servo mount is only $10.

The S2 floating servo mount flexes too much. I'm going to put an R1 mount on my S2.

I've never compared them before. Interesting. I didn't think the big chunk of garolite on the s2 mount would be that flexible. I'll have to compare the s2 mount on my s1 with the aluminum mount on my r1.

I agree that 6061 will be fine for a test mule and will perform the same as 7075. It just won't handle crazy hard crashes as well.
