Sorry, noob here - thought spool/slipper spool was for asphalt? I had a diff in my TC5R initially (rubber on asphalt track), then switched to the slipper spool based in what I'd read elsewhere, and honestly, it doesn't handle nearly as well now - at least the way I drive. I don't have near as much steering as I did before and I can't tell a noticeable difference in acceleration. I'm not planning on racing a class where weight savings will be a factor, and I'm considering going back to the diff... ?

Try everything, run what works best for YOU.

Use what works best for you. It took me a little getting used to the front spool/slipper spool at first but almost everyone runs this setup for carpet with rubber tires.

Good luck

anyone know a good gearing for a TC5 on carpet running 17.5 with timing and boost and what not?

I am running 64P gears and am at 45/108 right now.

Still have some programming on the ESC to do.

We need to know the size of the track (L & W) and wether it's open, technical, mixed, etc.

Coming from the gas offroad scene I found the spool setup to be interesting. It did take me a bit of getting used to. Once I realized that you can often turn better while holding and staying smooth on the throttle on the through the turns. As opposed to slowing down significantly before the turns, which I was used to.

After installing the slipper spool, the car now exhibits a LOT of understeer. The only thing I changed was the diff for the spool. I can't power through the turns as described or it will just push the car further to the outside of the turn. Once I'm past the apex of the turn, I can power on and pull OUT of the corner just fine, but it's not near as tight in the corners as it was with the diff.

What am I doing wrong?

I gotta admit, I haven't run a diff in on-road racing so my comparison may not be fair. I just find that you don't need to brake as much on turn-in because the spool generally slows you enough, then you can power-out of the turn as you mentioned.

Try the setup below.

What I'm running now (setup below) is a vast improvement over what I had. I run RCGT-carpet.

Another setup to consider, I haven't tried it yet though.

I'll give 'em a shot. I'm running an outdoor asphalt, med to low traction track, but it's a start.

I'm running 40/96 in mine right now with the following setup:

- LRP X-12 17.5
- Tekin RS
- Reedy 2S LiPo
- Boost @ 40
- Turbo @ 10
- Turbo Ramp @ 1
- CRC foam tires @ 56.5mm diameter

People are asking me how my car is so fast.
