After Tamiya designed a lipo chassis, I figured they were going to move on from the 416 moniker and announce the 417 this year. Looks very promising!

So let me be the fist to ask...

What parts can be retrofitted to the 416x??

It looks nice. It looks like they will finally have diff covers....which is my only pet peeve with the 416x.

I have a buddy that makes CF diff covers that he sells, if you're interested mantisworx.com . I have them on my 416X. Don't have pics of mine, but here's his from his HB.

maximum chassis weight rule in mind. *The 2012 world championship regulations state that the Max.
chassis weight will be restricted to 1,350g. (1,450g in 2010).
-The TRF417 has an optimized chassis layout for high-power lithium batteries and brushless motors.
-One-piece aluminum motor mount offers extra strength and durability to handle high-power motors,
enabling transmission of the motor power to the drivetrain with minimal friction loss.
-Compared to the TRF416, the motor position has been moved about 2.0mm towards the center to keep high
traction during racing.
-By using a 19T pulley, the secondary gear reduction becomes 1.94, which is very close to the ideal rate
for brushless motors (2.0). With this, the car has less flexing resistance on drive belts and speed loss is
minimized when the throttle is off.
-Newly designed steering linkage is not connected to the upper deck, providing improved flexibility to hold
traction during cornering.
-Newly designed ball diff housing and plates provide extra durability.
-Identical front and rear bulkheads.
-Comes equipped with short reversible suspension arms and TRF416 uprights.

Newly Designed Parts
Front/Rear Carbon Damper Stays
Front/Rear Aluminum Bulkheads
Aluminum Motor Mount
Aluminum Center Shaft
Aluminum Diff Joint
Aluminum Steering Arms and Linkage
Diff Plates
Wheel Axle
Cross Joints
19T Pulley
Carbon Lower & Upper Decks (thicknesses TBA)
by the look of the above lists, there would be lots of stuffs to get to convert existing chassis to the new ones, that would depends on the avail of the parts..... and considering the launch date, expect it to hit the shelves early Dec, just nice before Christmas..... hopefully could get mine when I'm in HK early dec then....

Looks like they're running the spec-r gear diff. Marc's car has a top deck on it with a brace that goes across the very front, like one we've seen in pics in the past. Otherwise, there didn't seem to be much different about it. Their cars look just okay in practice, but there's some serious competition at this race in modified. Qualifying starts tomorrow, and will be on LiveRC.

Tamiya needs to redesign the "hooks" on the LiPo chassis. They move around way too easily.

Does the team use them? I'm gonna get rid of mine, I never had a problem before I had them, they take up heaps of room, and a couple weeks ago I saw the hooks go clean through a lipo case in a big accident one of the guys had

jonest, just out of curiosity, how much is the 416X in Hong Kong? I am wondering if it's cheaper to buy the kit in Hong Kong or is it cheaper to buy it here in the US. Logic would dictate that Tamiya America probably buys the kits "in bulk" and would be able to extend the cost savings to the hobbyist. But maybe that's not the case? The 416X here in the US is $520. What is it in Hong Kong?

Speedtech in the US has the 416x kits for something in the mid 400's range and rc market in HK has them in the low mid 400's range if I remember correctly. They are basically the same price after shipping to where you are though.
