Default HPI body on MO3M

Yes the HPI bodies fit but the shock tower on the MO3M is higher than the HPI MINI. I have the Golf body and the body sits right on the shock towers. I put a layer of butle tape then a disc of aluminum (beer can) the size of a dime then another layer of tape inside the body where the towers hit. It keeps the paint from getting torn up. The body still sets just a little high in the front.

Hey Todd, Big Bad Bob here. I just got a mini and some of the guys down here are getting into them too. I saw you post on free drive line. Are you using ball bearings? Any tips for us beginners?

Hi Bob!

Make sure you add the extra bearings to replace the bushings... Use a bearing blaster to clean out the bearings and place a small drop of "thin" oil (I used WD-40 I put in a dropper) before you install them.

When you install the bearings, turn the plastic part upside down. If the bearing "doesn't" fall out.... you need to ream out the bearing housing slightly.. just enough so it'll drop out.

When you put the whole thing together, tighten the screws until they are "snug"... then back them out 3/4 turn so the casing won't bind the gears or bearings.....

Same thing when you put the motor in... but I only back out about a half turn...

Before putting the motor in... Free Spin the front wheels... if you get 12-15 seconds --- YOU'RE GOLDEN!!!!!

Thanks Todd. Do you use the kit grease on the gears or run them dry? What about tire inserts? How about limiting shock travel, I guess we would call that seting droop in our C-dans.

thanks

Thanks Boomer.

I bet Tamiya never designed a mini with dirt oval racing in mind, but it is very fun to try. They threw me in with the off road buggies who were running 19 turn or brushless motors. It was a good choice - they were turning 5.1 sec best laps, I was at 5.2 secs on the dirt oval. Long chassis mini cooper, s grip tires, stock (not silver can) motor with 16 tooth pinion, tamiya shocks with staggered springs, staggered internal shock limiters (droop). Now I just need a little more practice in the art of "turning left only".

I've never needed to do any extra driveline work to make the car fast. Just put the bearings in the gear case and leave the gears dry....then run the crap out of the car. My car doesn't lack speed at all and that's all I have ver done.
