Track down a Hobbywing 13T 35A system and you'll probably never look back. It has become the international standard for minis Hobbywing's product page.

Best deals are usually out of Hong Kong and there are loads of rebranded and copied versions, too.

How do you run the diff in your Mini?
1. Ball diff, tight
2. Gear diff, shimmed tight, still has diff action
3. Gear diff, shimmed medium, lots of diff action
4. Gear diff, box stock, spins freely

If none of the above please describe what you use for a diff and how it's setup?

My blue M05 is shelfqueen since the whole coating sucks static electricity like a condensator. The discharge happend through TX and it went wild for half a second when discharge. When i lift the car up and held my finger 10 cm from the motor the spark would fly. I belive it's a combination of many things like rideheight, coating and carpet. The strange thing is that the blue M03 chassi did not have this problem and with almost same running gear (ezrun, spektrum TX, lipo, foamtires and plastic gear servo) and same carpet.

And to think of it, i bought two kits of them along with extra red, black and blue frames. Also have two of the silver frame specials....
I guess it's like Alienware computers, who needs them? But my god they look and feel nice, eh?

I am curious about this as well...I am surprised there was only one response. So everyone is running a tight ball diff?

I used to run ball diff with ceramic balls, medium tight.
We race on carpet and with foams, so it means nothing to you i guess.

Now i run oil filled gear diff's becasue it's less maintanance and setting stay same.

I'm hoping to see 10+ responses on this topic. It's a bit of a controversy in CO where we're just starting to race Mini's. I'm a little shocked only 1 person responded.

1. Ball diff, tight
Best option and will provide the most acceleration out of the corner

2. Gear diff, shimmed tight, still has diff action
can get the same result as the tight ball diff, but will weigh more

3. Gear diff, shimmed medium, lots of diff action
again same as above but will lose the extra punch

4. Gear diff, box stock, spins freely
crap at everything, dont even bother

Have you ever attended a TCS race? If yes, did they allow a tight shimmed gear diff or did you have to run a ball diff?

Tough question to answer cause it really depends on track surface, grip level, track temp, etc. Some will make diff change to suit the conditions.

For me, a medium stiff ball diff for all except the unusual.

I prefer box stock gear diff, built per instruction. With light coating of anti-wear grease. No extra shims.

Tried tight ta03 ball diff, m05 diff, spool. I just seem to gravitate back to the simple gear diff.

Static: That's got to be a metal plating/foam tire combo. I've only ever raced on carpet, with rubber tires and a few times with a plated chassis, but never had static. Or...maybe you're REALLY bad at wiring.

Diffs: I've run a tight ball diff with ceramic balls for a few years and was the bomb until recently, when the oil filled gear diffs came out. Seeing how I can't run anoil filled diff in an M03, I jumped straight to a spool. (locked diff)

Driving style needs to be adjusted for the spool, as the car wants to plow a lot more. Softer front suspension, higher rear ride height and/or slightly earlier turn in on the corner are all tools you can use to adapt.

Speaking of oil filled (stock gear) diffs, has anyone ever found a way to get some 500,000wt silicone in one and keep it there?
