I really wish the McAllister Camaro was approved for VTA. Here is mine I race as a dirt oval street stock.

Finally got the pair of VTA bodies done that I was working on this past weekend. The details were important because I was trying to match up to actual car from the racer's past.
Both are HPI's. One is the 66 Mustang and the other is the Boss Mustang. Both bodies are really awesome, but the bad part about both is that the window masks don't fit well at all. That took a lot of time to correct. The 66 ones are way off.
He wanted me to do a black vinyl roof. To get that kind of matte textured finish, I used a matte spray and let it fall on the roof lightly. Turned out really well.

Here's the Boss Mustang completed. I used the stock decal set. Both bodies are done with Faskolor red that I darkened to a better more realistic shade.

Maybe you were asking how to mix a darker red? If that was your question, here's the answer.
Red is a primary color. So if you just add black, it can get muddy pretty quick. The right thing to do is to use green or blue. It doesn't take much. Just add a drop and shake the bottle to see it's effect. Open the lid to look. The side of the bottle won't show the actual shade.
Whether you use green or blue really depends on what shade of red you start out with and what shade you are trying to get to. Hope that helps.

Check out the "Captain Crunch Camaro" in the photo below. Not my work. It belongs to a guy named Jim from Chicagoland area. He does incredible, one-of-a-kind paint jobs on his cars. This was at Indy RC last Friday night. Great guy too.

Next time dont take the overspray film off and just cut out what you want in matte or flat and peel that section of the overspray film off then paint. Once your done pull all the film off and you are done no need to do all the extra masking when its all done for you at the start.
