Very true! I am realizing that the axle bearings are very fragile. Twice in the past month I have found a 'chattering bearing' on the axle. This was causing the axle to not be as free so it was making the diff uneven left to right causing erratic cornering until the bearing was replaced.

What are you setting the ride height at? Sometimes a slightly higher front height can help if your car is not getting traction. Another part that might help you is the 3.5mm offset steering arms. They will help the car track straighter and take away a bit of steering.

Also, make sure your body is not fouling the wires or rear pod in any way. If you have to raise it up, do it.

Here is a setup for a VERY high bite track with A foams:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...MmFkMjU2&hl=en
The front springs were changed for our last TCS race here. If I remember correctly, my ride height is 5mm front and 3 to 3.5mm rear. I have also added some weight to the rear of the car and it did seem to help some. I had also tried letting the sauce sit for 10 to 15 minutes. I don't have the 3.5mm offset and I have been trying to get some of those but hard to find them up here. In my opinion, the car has way too much steering so the offset steering arms might help. I took the entire rear assembly apart before our last TCS race and made sure that everything was correct (not binding, stripped, broken, or whatever). The car still had the same issue. I am running a Futaba 9652 servo and I have turned down the EPA and EXP.

I will check the body height for clearance and then mess around with the support trays and see if there is an issue there. Heck, I might just strip the entire car and rebuild it again just to see if I missed something. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Is mounting the servo with the output shaft up (a la robk) considered TCS legal?

Hey man, you pickin on me?

I too go thru bearings like dollar bills at the strip club.

Not sure if that would explain why the car is a bullet for about 4 or 5 minutes at the most.
Happens all the time for me with foams on asphalt.

Gotta figure how to get it better for when the "dope" is used up from the tires.

I have transformed my F104 pro to a F104w.
I think that the only differences between two models (F104 vs F104w) is that the F104w uses the F103 tires and F103 front arms. Rest of the cars are similar.
In my opinion, if there are no rules regarding the width of the models, I would prefer the F104w, my experience is that is more stable entering and exiting curves.

Regards

Nice. I'll have to replace mine on my car for sure. During the last rebuild, I noticed that the rear axle bearings were 'notchy' but I didn't have any replacements. This could be part of my problem.

Does anyone know the part number for these bearings?

thanks for the response. do you know if the arms that come with the f104w have ride height adjustment? i also have 103 arms on a 104, but i cant adjust the front height. i think you can adjust the new 104w arms.

No...they are the same as the F103 arms and don't have any ride height spacers. At least on my Lotus F104W.

Foam as mentioned in my post.

Also, the part number for the rear axle bearings are Tamiya #53270. It's amazing the things I'll find when I use Google . These bearings are 6x10x3 if I'm not mistaken.

You can make adjustments by shaving down the tops and or bottoms of the spindles then replace the removed material with shims on the opposite side to raise or lower the ride height.

This has worked for me and allowed me to run more ride height for smaller diameter tires (foams) and lower ride heights when running taller rubber tires.
