If you haven't already...try using sun tan lotion after your normal tire compound. It seems to make it last a lil longer. Also what traction compound are you using and are there any restrictions at the track on what you can use? Also are you doing the whole front tire? If so try doing just the inner half...that will help with the oversteer as well.

What size are the rear axle bearings? Would there be any benefit to aftermarket bulkheads with a larger OD bearing? Kind of how they do with the outer rear wheel bearing on offroad cars (B44 hubs carriers)?

anyone have try ZAC tires? in which shore?

And secondly is there a big difference between de F104 and F103 tires on the rear of car?

My axle bearings last pretty long but the front wheel bearings don't so I buy cheap ones and try to change em kinda regular like. My LHS has Traxxas bearings for a fair price.

They are different sizes.

F103 are wider and have smaller diameter rims than F104 which are tall and skinny.

Hi, Im interested in purchasing a Tamiya f104 but unsure exactly which model to get. I've looked at the Tamiya f104 black special which looks very nice but since the f104x1 is on the horizon im not sure whether to wait for the new one or get the current model. So my main question is how big is the difference and should i wait or just go ahead and get the black special? Or are there are any other competitive models I should know about?

Also any recommendations for good electric components for these cars. I already have a radio & receiver. I will be running Lipo batteries.

It mostly depends on what you will be doing. If you're going to race on asphalt with rubber tires, the X1 is probably a safe bet. If you're going to race foams, especially on carpet, the Black special is a good choice.

The Novak Mongoose is a nice esc not only for brushless motors in a no timing class like 21.5, but it runs brush motors as well. Since most F1 setups are fairly mild like 540's or 21.5, it's a good deal.

For those who have tried the Spice Foam tyres and rims, do they come with the double sided tape similar to the Tamiya sponge tyres or will I have to glue them.

If gluing is required, what is the best glue to use, contact glue or CA? I have never had to glue foam/sponge tyres before.

Robk, can you tell me if any modifications are required to the Novak Mongoose before running 540 motors? You mentioned other 1/18th scale esc's that require bec upgrades...any comments on the mongoose

I have no idea about other escs, but I have a Mongoose in one of my cars, and it's plug and play. I soldered it up to the 21.5 and it was good to go.

thanks for the info...i thought you were the guy who blogged on the RCF1 site about modding a Tekin 1/18th esc for 540 use but I guess I was mistaken.

Anyhow, thanks again for that. looks like I may be spending a bit more money soon.
