im not bashing the BD... i love mine

I have a BD thats only a few months old and has had very little use (maybe 30 packs tops).

I'm running 1/12 with a 1 cell Lipo and have been using the internal boster from the beginning without issues.

Last night in the final I got about 2/3rds into a race and my AMBrc transponder stopped working and the little light will not come on.

I have two transponders and tried the second one and had the same result.

Both transponders have been tested in ch1, ch3 & ch4 and still no light.

If I plug a 6V battery into the receiver it all works fine.

The servo also works fine from the power supplied by the BD.

It would seem that the AMB transponder needs more voltage to function than the servo and for some reason the BD is no longer able to supply this.

Some of you are going to say run a booster or a receiver battery etc however, I don't understand why it's been working and all of a sudden stopped working.

I have never adjusted any of the settings within the BD since the day I first ran it so I'm stumped on what the problem could be.

If anybody has any suggestions I would really like to hear from you?

Thanks,

I've been trying to remember what the minimum voltage is for the original AMB transponders.
You might want to consider getting an MRT clone of your PT which can work at much lower voltages.
Is running a receiver pack of some sort out of the question?

Thanks for the reply skiddins,

I just pulled a 4.8V Ni-MH 150mah battery from a Losi Micro T.
Plugged it into the BD (pins 4 & 5).

Problem solved and everything working fine.

But!!!!

I still don't understand why I have to do this in the first place because it's been working perfectly up until last night?

I noticed when connecting everything up using the internal booster the transponder light comes on but it's really hard to see and fades away to nothing.

The AMB transponder requires between 4 - 8VDC

Short term I'm going to have to use the Losi battery if I want my laps counted but would really prefer to run a booster, what's everybody using these days?

Maybe a small 7.4V Lipo would work well?

Is the jumper plug still ok? The little plug you use instead of a booster/receiver pack. My bd always worked fine with the transponder with no boosters ect!

Thanks Jas1,

I removed the little jumper that shorts 6 & 5 so that I could get the Losi mico T battery onto it and it was on firmly.

I noticed after I pulled the jumper that nothing worked until the little battery was fitted so that wasn't the problem.

Worth a shot though.

Thanks.

With 1 cell Lipo you have to use a receiver pack or booster. Sounds like your booster has taken a crap. I use my BD in pan car and have used a receiver pack with no issues! I've used both a 2 cell Lipo receiver pack and a LiFe receiver pack. Both work great!

Thanks Andy,

I have a 7.4v 180mah Lipo on the way.

Fingers crossed this does the trick.

The battery in the Losi Micro T is a 4.8V 150mah Ni-MH and on the heavy side + the Lipo is slightly bigger in capacity.

What are you doing for a switch?

The Lipo pack I have (SMC) has the switch built-in. I also have a LiFe pack with built-in switch from Zipp Racing. Gotta get one with a switch!

Hello

Am running the bd, love it, am running it with the graupner 13.5, what the best size of spur to run?

The motor is very torquey.

Cheers

That would vary alot depending on your chassis. With the BD u need to find the magic FDR for your motor... that will give the best power and speed regardless of track size.
