I was under the belief that the r40 gearing is setup to be run with any pinion or spur gear without any worry of mesh.

Let me know. Also today Im going to show some video of my car with my new mugen clutch. I tuned it and ran the clutch around the driveway yesterday its amazing the difference.
They should be constant diameters just like the stock pinions. Just lay a couple of the different size spares on top of each other to see.

I would agree with Rapid Roy. The diameters for all the first gears are the same, and the diameters for the second gears are the same as well. So meshing should be fine.

When you buy these gears, you get a gear chart that shows all the different ratios between the gears. I dont think HPI would give that info in the table in you cant use them together.

What your friend could be saying is that because of a big split, you would be putting more strain on the second gear the moment it goes from fist to second.

Yeah I figured so but just wanted to make sure. I believe the rs4-2 you had to take mind of what gears you had to run with certain spur combos. Been awhile on that one.

Yeah my split is smaller now. So it should shift with less harshness I hope. Ill have some video of it in a little.

Also those with the Hara kits is your battery running extremely close to the side belt? Im wondering if you guys are mounting the batteries sideways...I think I tried but there wasnt enough room vertically.

The default battery is the 5 cell AAA pack. In your manual there is a HPI part number for this battery. There is also one available on ebay (not HPI model). I've also used a lipo battery with a voltage regulator on this car.

Go back a couple of pages in this forum or do a search. This topic has been discussed before and you will find some photos/pictures as well.

Hi

Does Mugen mtx3 grey clutch shoes fit on the R40? I have the standard gears, not the 0.8 set. Any modification needed to make it fit?

Yes it will fit , you need to modify the holes in the shoe , basically make them larger and or further outward.

You need a 5 cell AAA hump reciever pack. You should be able to find a sanyo 1000mah pack. This seems to be the best , cheapest option around. Has a nice short rx wire too for keeping runs clean.

I beleive some people are using springs from the Proceed. I don't think you will really need any more sets of springs then the kit and the extras you have already bought. The silver are softer and the gold are harder then the kit springs. I use Black fronts and Silver rear with diffs front and back. With a solid front axle Silver front and Black rear is what AMG runs. You could also tune using shock oils and different shock pistons. The car really is pretty easy to set up for good handeling. It has a wide sweet spot.
