I was told I can buy Wide Offset wheels to offset and fit a 200mm body to 190mm chassis. But some wheels are 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm ??? Which one do I need to buy? Or is there an easy and cheaper way to do this, like buying Hex Wheel Hubs to accomplish the same thing without having to buy wheels/tires?

TowerHobbies emailed me a $25 coupon code and I'm thinking about using it to buy this body... which is 200mm and I have a 190mm chassis (Sakura Zero S). I want to make sure the wheels/tires look right with the body (trying to avoid the body hanging too far over the wheels).

Simple math my man.

190mm + 6mm both sides = 202mm.

The 6mm will be flush, 9 mm will be hella flush and 12mm will stick out just a tad.

Or if your TC allows, make the arms wider via shims

Since the body of the M3 has wider wheel wells, I was thinking of maybe going 9mm? Or should I not worry about it?

most 200mm bodies I've seen are wider in the rear. 200-215
and a little narrower in the front 195-205

I don't have an M3, but I just measured a few other 200mm shells I have lying around and they have the following measurements

Make - Model - Front/Rear measured in mm at top of wheel well
HPI - Gallardo - 198/204
HPI - GT3RS - 200/204
HPI - Barracuda - 203/212
PF - J71 - roughly200/212 (I had cut the front wheel wells a bit larger on this shell, making it narrower at the very top 195mm)

So you will probably want a wider offset in the rear to make it look more scale.

Very good point! Thanks for this info and I appreciate the measurements to give me an idea. Got a pic of your GT3? If not...no worries.

Btw...does anyone know if HPI sells the Falken GT3 body separately which comes on their RTR?

The Porsche shell is just a solid blue. Nothing exciting. It was one of the first shells I bought when I got into the hobby. It has not been on a chassis in close to 3 years. It's in better shape than most of the others that I have mounted on my "wall of dead bodies". Most are mazdaspeed6 shells that met a few too many barriers.

I don't think they sell the shell with the Falken livery that you are looking for, but here's some HPI Porsche shells they still list on their site.

Tamiya makes some really nice looking shells too, with very complete decal sheets, but they cost quite a bit more. Tamiya has a better selection of 190mm shells. Most of the cool looking HPI shells are 200mm.

I noticed this too...Tamiya makes the BMW M3 GT2 a little better than HPI imo so this may be my next purchase that I paint and maybe include the LED light kit!

I'm gonna have to PM this member as he has a nice collection!!!!!!!

Check out this link on HPI's website if you want to paint/create your Falken body - http://www.hpiracing.com/news/2009080701/

The page on HPI's site include files you can download to create your own paint mask. If you don't have the time or skill to cut out your own mask, you could take the file to a local printing company and they could do it for you.

Thanks for this! Maybe the reason they don't sell the bodies by themselves is b/c they don't want them on other cars that may not look right? At least if they license them to HPI, they are licensing them on a consistant car that will look the same. Or am I waaaay off? Just seems like they'd make some easy money selling just the bodies pre-painted rtr
