It is about what i expected, but I was hoping for a bit more.

It seems they have eliminated the middle inner camber link location. Any reason they limited the car to long or short links?

Not surprised, just underwhelmed. Tamiya used to be able to get away with their lack of refinement since on the track, they were untouchable. Now that the other brands have caught up on the track, and typically offer better refinement, it's a more challenging market.

Not needs, per se, but nice to haves. Gear diff. Durable c-hubs. Plastic retaining clips for the battery. Sway bar mounts that key into the bulkheads so they don't slide around. Tougher 1pc arm mounts.

Little things. Not purely necessary, and maybe not required on every style of track. The nice to haves that you can get with other brands on the market. Those were my hopes.

If the 418 dominates on the track like the 416 used to, those things won't matter. I'm a Tamiya fan boy, but I've been spoiled by other brands that get the little things just right, and those little conveniences and refinement add up to enough of a difference that my loyalties remain elsewhere.

Anyway, good luck to the future 418 owners, I hope the car is stunning on the track. Because I need an excuse to buy one, the pictures alone are unconvincing. For now, I wait.

I am personally pretty disappointed by what I see.

I expected Tamiya to be a leader instead of a follower! They are playing catch up and it shows in the 418. The car is uninspired and is missing upgrades in the right places...I guess time will tell if the car is better or not.

Tamiya used to be the gold standard and now Tamiya looks like the cheap Yokomo Knock-off!

+1. Was thinking the same thing. A company as big as tamiya, other companies should be following them around not the other way around.

We only ever use 1 set of holes anyway, so I think you'll find the link length is pretty close to hole 1 on the current car. Maybe a little shorter at the rear thanks to the 1 hole hub (which would make it similar to yoke)

Sometimes my spring cup got caught on the arm. I needed to put a spacer to stop it from binding. The cup may keep that from happening. I just wonder what parts are interchangeable between this and the 417x/v5. Particularly the steering...

Looks like the car has HPI-style springs on it and those are the large diameter retainers, not short shocks and 1mm down retainers.
