The run backwards at the 'Birds because the grip stays more consistent between the oval and onroad racing (since they alternate from oval to road during the course of the event). I have also heard that it also helps keep the carpet from wearing out before the event is over.

Let me clarify my post. They currently run ALL road-course races counter-clockwise at the 'Birds. Since oval in the U.S. always runs counter-clockwise due to the design of pan cars, it was easier to have the on-road cars run 'backwards'

Since the USVTA rules do allow the race director to run the mains in reverse, maybe they could have run the race clock-wise.

Man, that layout looked like fun!

So is everyone way over geared and burning up motors every run or what? No way those guys are running anything close to a 4.0 FDR.

I'd bet they are running 3.2-3.6. We around a 3.6 on a 36x80' track. The larger track about 1.5 hours from here, we were running 3.2-3.3.

I had 3.89 @ 40 timing, lot of the guys were runing in the 3.3 range with around 30 timing. Motor temps were fine, very little rear or none rear toe ... lots of traction on the track.

I had a 3.96 at full timing. Could run him down in the corners but he could pull me down the straight big time, best race I've run in a while.

FUN! Do y'all run any weeknights? I'll have to stop out next time I'm in town. Not sure if I'd want to take that marshal position in the donut... I'd get DIZZY!

I'll be a spectator at the April USVTA race at The Track. Don't currently own a VTA rig but I am working on something, will hopefully know more this weekend on what my budget looks like. Next year I plan on racing in the USVTA Nationals event.

I'm getting ready to convert my Xray T2 into a VTA car. I'll be racing on a medium sized asphalt track. What spur and pinion would you guys suggest? I had my old HPI pro 4 setup with a 52 pinion and 70 spur. It performs well, I just don't want to break it.
