Spec-R Gear diff review
#168
Thinking about running an spec r diff in my xray what all do I need to have it running right? Also should I run gears in both front and rear of the car?

Any idea of options to get a gear diff for the TC5R?

I think most people are only using the gear diff in the rear right now. You could use the gear diff up front to replace the spool if you use some very thick silicone lube -- like you find in Nitro Touring Cars.
My first outing with the gear diff went well (but not for my modified car -- that is another story). Going back to back on a ball diff to the gear diff when running an 8.5T Speed Passion motor along with an aggressively configured Tekin RS Pro (using my standard 13.5T config) I found that the gear diff was not only to take all of the power I could throw at it - but it also made the car handle more predictable when just hammering the throttle, especially out of a hard 180 degree turn.
I did experience one issue with the gear diff -- but all in all it isn't a problem with the product per say. On the third or forth lap when running my modified car I experienced a blow over, which made my smash into a cement brick wall at full speed while sliding on the roof. Basically the car is gone - graphite chassis and top deck are broken along with a lot of bent metal bulkheads. One of the bevel gears got a slight chip during this crash. This produced a jerky diff action that I was able to fix by swapping out a the bevel gear with a spare part that I had ordered. Amazingly, the gear diff mostly survived the accident. I ran the gear diff the rest of the day in a 13.5T club race.
At the race today there were a few other T3 runners who were testing with the Spec-R gear diff too -- and even more racers that wish they had one. I really think this product is going to be a hit.

Thanks for the input^^
So are you running the gear diffs in both the front and rear? Also did you have to alter or completely change the dogbones?
