Hello guys!!!!


The december issue of R/C Car Action had an article about the TC3 and XXX-s being "head to head"

so what is really the difference between the two? aside from their drive train?

and the article, did not say which was better?


any comments?

Well, I read the same article and I was quite supprised. Normally RCCA is biased towards Trinity, and losi products. (not that there's anything wrong with them), but this article clearly does not state which car is the "winner" of there test. I guess if you own a XXX-S, you can walk away saying "my car won", While the TC3 owners can say "my car won".
Personally I value Hi torques RC Car magazine opinions more, They are straight to the consumer, and the report card scoring is much better.
Overall I'm pleased RCCA didnt bash the TC3 since it has been around for awhile, it still kicks A$$, and this locked diff set up is the key to bringing life back to her. Plus it helps to have guys like Barry B on the payroll winning races, now not even RCCA can say it is dated and not winning.

Hi guys. Greetings from Malta.

Quite right too. The TC3, now in it's 3rd year and still pretty much the way it started, is still winning races both at Club and International level, all over the World.

Latest TC3 wins.

Italian National Championship 2002 won by TC3.

British BRCA Championships, both stock and mod won by TC3.

1st round of Finnish championships - last week - won by TC3.

European championships 2002 won by TC3.

And even here in Malta last year's stock and mod championships won by TC3.

1st two rounds of this year's Malta championship (mod) won by TC3.

I could go on for ever.

Try it and find out. I would think maybe for mod, no way in stock, matter of fact I think you pretty much need the diffs as loose as can be in stock to get thru the corners with as little scrub as possible.

Yeah, it sounds like they are either the wrong bearings or that they haven't seated correctly - I've had that happen.

holy cow thats the only thing ididnt check on the whole dang diff. i just checked the part number of the package of the bushings i put in the diff and they are different from the numbers in the manual. thanks theisgroup and boomer. i over looked the bushings, i have the ones for the steel diff in my regular one. ill go fix it now, thanks.

RCCA never will come right out and say car "A" is better than car "B" or car "C". They pander to their advertiser's not their readers.

RCCA could be testing a cheap plastic Tamiya Off-Road car, take it over a jump, all four tires go shooting off in different directions upon landing and all they'd say is something like, "durability might be slightly suspect."

Don't ever take anything ever printed in R/C Car Action literally because it's written to offend the fewest possible advertisers, not inform the maximum possible number of readers.

I roasted the plastic ones with a 12 turn double on foam tires. I melted the halves straight to the gear and the diff was set at 1/4 turn from full lock. Never had a problem in stock but mod just roasts these things. Get steel for mod for longer life and parts wear.

The fact remains, the plastic diffs are not as robust as the steel ones (duh) and aren't all that suitable for mod applications. Mod generates heat, plastic doesn't like heat, steel doesn't mind.

Skip i had some of the smoothest plastic diffs u could ahve ever felt. Ball bearings from acer instead of bushing(puke) and always new rings and carbide balls with klober engineering grease, way better than any silicone lube from assoc. or ne other car company.
The steel ones feel notchy and crappy now. least i wont burm them up

well i got that diff all squared away today all i have is the steel outdrive bushings until i make a trip to the lhs tomarrow. so i just shaved .020" off of one of the bushings and it fits fine just like my others do.
what do you guys run for rear outdrives in mod steel or aluminum or plastic. i was maybe going to go with irs aluminum outdrives for the rear for when i do mod.
