Gearing question...

new to the awesomatix guys... last night was the maiden voyage for the A700 and I struggled a bit with the gearing.

im running 17.5 class... longitudinal layout... i geared my motor 80/42... running a fantom motor works D3.5 High tourque rotor 12.5... max timing 3.96 FDR... the car just seemed slow top speed... but when i went to 43t pinion, it seemed sluggish. Was running a 6500 SMC 70c pack also...

I am used to an Xray and didnt know if there was just a difference in the feel of a belt drive vs a shaft drive or there was something i wasn't taking into consideration with the gear ratios... thanks in advance.

I normally run 80/44 on my D3.5(light blue rotor, max timing) for indoor tracks. Its a rocketship.

29TC- I believe the Evo is coming with the GD1. They are still working on getting the internal parts made for the GD2 (you need Xray parts right now).

The setup still needs some work to be right for me. Mostly it wants to oversteer exiting sharp turns. Going to half sauce up front made things a lot more reasonable, but I prefer full sauce when I can get away with it. I also need to adjust my driving to be smoother and more easy. I've gotten in the habit of setting everything to kill which is the only way I can make the T4'14 respectable, and it's not needed with the Awesomatix. The car seems a lot better when I just let it work instead of forcing it into every gap.

Full sauce? What are you doing man? Saucing all the way yo your wheel nuts is a crutch of an ill handling car.

I think we all need to see a setup from the Klingforths

I thought Karls shock package (and setup) drove too much on the nose. By swapping shock settings over to what Gee has been running I was able to push the car more.

It is amazing how different people like things...

I'm back to saucing half fronts. I always worry about relying on that because at a big race with tech, trying to reliably sauce only half your front tires is difficult.

I have never ever sauced full fronts at a "big" race and do not have issues with Tech or anything else for that matter except for my mains day driving.

You know know it goes, like when you go up to tech and set your car on the flat board they use to check right height that's covered in sauce. It always gets in my head when it gets on the half of the front tires I left dry. Irrational, I know. I'm not sure the oily stuff that's left behind when people set their cars down really does much anyway.

Anyway, message received, back to half fronts!

On to other things...

Does GD2 require thicker oil to perform the same as GD1?

I would imagine if you filled them the same amount, they would be pretty similar. If you vacuum fill the gd2 so it is 100% full, you will probably want thinner oil to get the same feeling on track.

I always try to run full sauce at club racing, so I can make the simple adjustment of less sauce for mega grip big races. If you need half sauce at a club race, you might be in trouble at a big race

Hmm, okay. I did vacuum fill with the brake fluid hand pump thing. It felt a little light on the track, but that could have been many different things.

What oil? I would probably start with 2K in the GD2. I have been running 3k in the GD1 for 17.5. Freddy ran 3K @ ETS in the GD2 for mod, whereas I think they had been running 5K for the GD1

I'm pretty sure Freddy's 5K GD1 diffs had special gears.
Running GD1 w/ only two small gears and 5K is pretty good too...
