Just got my first F1. It's a tamiya F104 with 3racing chassis. I have the same problem as above poster. I will go sever right. Under acceleration or even jus slow speed tuning. It feels like I have drift tires on. Diff is brand new. Bearings are brand new. Weight balance is pretty close to spot on. Any thoughts??

Diff to tight?
No play between the bearings and hubs?
How is your diff built up?
Is it still with the Original setup or did you use the one pice trust bearing?

For me, throttle curve, and both brake and throttle EPAs are critical tuning tools. Is the car spinning due to the brakes locking? Turn them down. The same is true for losing control under acceleration. Turn the throttle down or soften the throttle curve.

Do you have more info on your tires and track condition?

Good tires can mask a bad set up but a good set up cannot mask bad tires.

Spot on - throttle curve up or down to tune acceleration, brake EPA to turn down the brakes, and steering EPA to correct any difference in turning circles.

I can also reach the buttons to increase or decrease steering rate during a race, which is invaluable.

I've read (skimmed some) all 750 pages of this topic. What great info.
I started in R/C in 1977 and have been following F1 since 1971.
Thanks to all who have contributed and made my re-entry so much easier.
I decided to go with the Speed Passion SP-1 for a few very simple reasons.
1. No-one had anything bad to say.
2. All who owned one loved the way it ran out of the box
3. It's compatible with a lot of the other after market bits.
I also just ordered a TRF102 (I've run lots of Tamiya over the years but have found the entry level stuff lacking and ends up costing more to get it hooked but the TRF gear seems to give you a sorted kit without the expense of upgrades).
The 2 SP-1's and the TRF bring my current R/C model count to 64. I can't even imagine how many I've owned, must be over 200 by now.

Everyone else I didn't mention give yourselves a pat, I would not have gotten back into 1/10th without seeing this thread. (I don't normally come here).
My efforts over the last few years have been some real world racing (hillclimbs and historic Formula Vee) and running Gas 1/5 scale off road (5ive-t's and Baja's as well as a really cool FG 4wd Monster truck .
I'll run one SP-1 as a 17.5 2s and the other with a 10.5 1S.
Slow cars teach you how to drive fast.

Since I moved from Ride's to Pit's I got enough steering from the tires so I could move the esc back and tidy up my wiring.
I'm so happy with the result I even like to show some pictures of the car ( yes, pictures are always good )
Now lets hope the car still drives as good as before, prolly need a few changes in setup again but that wont be a problem.

What is the best way to mount them?
I was going to go with Double sided tape.

Hi,

I use carpet tape on my chassis where the shorty is placed. That is very thin dubbel sided tape and very good!
Used on the Serpent SF2

I do 4 small tabs on each corner of the battery so it doesn't slide, then one loop of battery strapping tape just to insure the battery stays in the car in a really heavy crash.

2S shorty pack I can fit in the WTF1 without tape. 1S needed a thin battery tape to keep it in place.

Here's a question I've been pondering for a while.

Do the current F1 tires (Pit Shimizus for example) behave more like a bias ply racing slick or a radial slick? I know they are belted on the inside. I've raced on both types of tires in full scale racing and they have very different setup requirements and handling characteristics.

Engineering nerds, what do you think?
