Default Need help: getting back into the hobby

So I've been out of the hobby for a few years now and am looking to get back in. The whole brushless motor and gearing thing is where I need some pointers right now. Pulled my TRF 415 out of mothballs to update the electronics and put in the RS pro with the 17.5 motor. I'll probably be running asphault and rubber but there is a chance of maybe also carpet and rubber.
Where do I gear this thing?
Thought I found something that said 3.5 for FDR which puts me at a 72/45 gearing. Is this right? Also what parameters should I change in the profile to get the most out of it?
If it matters, I'm running Thunder Power 65c 5300 2s batteries.

i ran the same 17.5 T on a TF5 with a little boost but i kept my FDR at 4.5, i think its pretty much depends on track size, whether its stock or boosted, etc. as for suggested parameters, you can view them on the tekin website, found it be very helpful as a starting point. i just bring my hotwire to the track and try different setups and see which ones work for me.

Seems very low gearing for 17.5 and would have thought it would get hot quickly and not get the revs up quick enough(could be wrong). I run 17.5 Tekin and I keep my gearing around 6.5 for most tracks i run at and just add turbo if the track is bigger. It also seems the gearing that most of the guys i race with use in 17.5. Like I say this is just an opinion though. Guys at your local track may offer a different opinion, but You wont go far wrong with 6.5 as a start mate.

It comes back to whether you are using open speedie settings or non boosted, ie blinky mode.

For open speedie your 6.5 would be correct and for blinky mode high 3 low 4's for FDR and full timing on motor.

that fdr is around stock spec(no boost/turbo) i would start around mid 5 with a setting of 30-40 timing boost 10 turbo start 2-3k and 11k end delay .05 ramp 2.if you havent bought the esc yet just buy the rs you don't need the pro unless you are going to run mod or 4wd offroad.now all this boost and rpm will get you confused so here is a article that will help you understand what everything id and does.http://www.carsrcracing.co.uk/?p=244.after you get everything wired up come back and ask more questions

Thanks guys!
Currently I'm running no boost, just stock parameters with the aggressive throttle curve. I had noteced the motor a little on the warm side after running for just a couple minutes so I'll change the gearing to 6.5 FDR and start there.
20 smoke- thanks for the article link.

Hi

I need a little help.. I just received a 7.5r novak velocoti in a trade and I hooked it up to my tekin rs. I bound the receiver and the steering worked but nothing from the motor. All there is is from the motor is I steady, really quiet ticking noise from the motor are the outside LEDs from the RS are blinking... no motor response at all.. I was wondering if maybe it is linked to the new Vegas 212 software that I just installed ... any help would b awsome.

thanks
Ben

Micro, try another motor. Leds 12 67 show an open phase somewhere. Either the motor wires or the motor itself.

drop 2 teeth from your current gearing you don't need to drop to a 6.5fdr with no timing boost/turbo
