TRF415 Lipo Fitment

TRF415 Lipo Fitment
Can anybody here reccomend a large lipo that will fit into the 415 without any fitment issues (ie no grinding bulkhead etc) without stick deck?
I know that orion 3200's hard case shouldnt be a prob but something larger would be more suitable for longer run-times, this is not for race car btw...
Cheers

Try posting in the 415 thread. Also post what version 415 you have. That makes a huge difference as well... But look to the 415 thread first....

TRF415MSX & MSXX
Figured here there would be more precise answers. Not to mention good thread for future reference. Couldnt find anything specifically relating to this.

the orion 3200 does not fit in the 415 msx without grinding a bit

I have an MSX with the MSXX stick pack conversion kit. With the stick pack kit it should fit any lipos that are under 21mm tall. You should be able to get the L,W,H of a pack on the net.
I am not sure of any lipos that you can run without grinding that bulkhead or getting that stick pack kit.

Ah thanks for the answers. Well the MSX ive got now and an MSXX is on its way. Havnt actually compared the two next to eachother yet...
How about the non cased lipos?
Is there any possibility of squeezing them under the bulkhead without grinding it?

Orion should have put the plugs on the other side of the pack. You can squeeze in a 3200 upside down on a MRE chassis. I'm guessing the yeah racing lipo packs with the stick pack style wires should work. I'll be ordering some to find out

MRE here with the Orion 3200 lipo. I had to grind down a small portion of the aluminum bulkhead. Nothing else will fit in the Orion lipo series (or most other hardcased batteries for that matter).

The standard MSXX is pretty much softcase-only for lipos. Even grinding away the scallop won't open up many options. But with a PPD plate, a softcase 5000 like the MaxAmps, and a bit of lead bullion, you can make it work. Provided, of course, you're permitted to run softcases at your track.
Otherwise just get the stick pack conversion, which is a good move anyway, as the 2.5mm lower deck renders the chassis hugely more resistant to tweaking. With the conversion your battery options open up greatly.

Even with the Maxamps softcase 5000 you may need to grind away a little of the bulkhead. It will fit with 1 mm or so to spare but a hard crash if the battery is not secured well could force the battery into the bulkhead. Additionally you might need to use a shorter screw on the top deck on that battery side.

The Orion 4800 platinum has same height as the 3200 orion hardcase... both are 23mm which may be appx 1mm too much from what I can see if the bulkhead is ground down. Option though, would there be any possibility to maybe remove some of the hard casing in that area to accomodate for the 1mm
I doubt there would be any danger to exposing that area of the lipo in case of a crash. But fitment issues might still occur.
Taken from Orion website... what you guys think?
Dimensions 3200mAh:
Length - 137.5mm
Width - 46.7mm (17.5mm radius sides to emulate stick pack shape)
Height - 23mm (20.5mm height between bumps)
Weight - 198g (6.6 oz.)

Platinum 4800mAh:
Length - 137.5mm
Width - 47mm
Height - 23mm
Weight - 258g (9.1 oz.)

I had the TRF415 MSX with and without stick pack kit. The issue is not just the rear bulkhead but the bigger issue is the center post. AKA BN6 on page 8 http://www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/49381ml.pdf or part # 3454351. This is what caused the no fitment for Orion 4800. The bulkhead clears fine but the pack would hit this. Both stock and stickpack conversion.
I have no idea if you could grind the case down and I wouldn't want to try it. I would just find something under 21mm and stick with that.
