He might want to spend the money on a brushless system because they require no motor maintainence, are more consistent and run forever compared to ANY brushed motor.

Cheap Basher Motor...
I bought one of these and threw it in my Mini today... just to see what it could do:
http://www.halted.com/commerce/catal...=1169949891835
Not bad at all! It seemed just a little slower than a Mabuchi. The shaft on it was about 1/16" too long... so I Dremeled it down a bit. I was able to run it for about 40 minutes on a cheapo Venom1800 battery. The motor never even got warm... the batt just a little. Not a bad parking lot basher motor for $3.75!

Hey Drifter,
I've been running the Novak 13.5 in my M03L. The speed is great, just a hint faster than the sport tuned motor, sport tuned clocks 32kmh, Novak 13.5 clocks 36kmh.
If you're really after a small & lightweight ESC you could try one of these:

Thanks for all your input guys, just got a great deal on an online auction for a Novak GTX (I always liked the Novak stuff ), so LiPoly and brushless put aside for now.
Will try the motors I have and then decide which is best.
@Tim K: cool ESC, what is it? And thanks for the speed details!
My brushless choice would have been the SS4300, but I dont like the size of the GTB ESC, unfortunately the GTB 4-cell wont handle 6-cells, even with this relativly mild motor.

Scottrik - you're right, it would certainly be unfair to run this in a competition with a sport tuned motor. The 13.5 is rated at 3300rpm/volt, so the motor would be pulling 23760rpm @7.2v … compare this to a good sport tuned motor which averages between 22000-22500rpm.
For myself, I run the 13.5 in my practice mini, I can run my old batteries (and still have speed) and not burn out my good sport tuned motors
Drifter - that’s a Kontronik Rondo 600 … it's meant for airplanes, so if you back off just a little the drag brake kicks in to help fold up the propeller … so as long as you don't back off you'll be fine

Hi Tim, I not sure about TCS rules or rules in your area, but in Asia, the motor wires must be at least 3cm (approx 1.5") this would mean the Rondo 600 is not allowed to be used in races.
Anyway, will be in germany later this week at the numberg show, will keep a look out for new mini stuff !!

Howdy! I thought I recognised the bean mini
That's a shame about the wires I better not bring that ESC to S'pore next time.
Yeah, k.i.v mini stuff in germany, perhaps the M05 will debut?
