VTA was the largest class at The Gate last weekend. We had nine cars entered. First time I ran it had a blast.

How are you guys gearing cyclone tc's? My son has a 109t spur and according to the fdr sheet I need a 66t pinion lol to get a 4.0 fdr. All the HB spurs are really high...think lowest I found was 104t. With it having a 2.4 internal im having a hard time finding a combo to get me at a 4.0 on his car.
Im also curious if I can use a spur from my tc5 in his cyclone.

but i normally run either a 88t, 90t or a 98t...I've never run anything higher then a 100t in mine for vintage
with a 90, you'll need a 52t pinion..if you throw an 88t in there, you'd need a 51t pinion to get near the 4.2FDR

BTW, the HB-branded spurs are actually made by xenon - which I know you can get from speedtechrc, they sell them there in 'bulk packages' for a decent price (like a 3-pack for $8 or $9)

i kinda wanna say the TC5 uses kimborough spurs - which are an exact fit in the cyclones...i normally run kimboroughs - don't have to be HB/HPI-branded spurs to work in the cyclones

I dont know man. He is kind of dorky lookin.
I like the sides on it though. You could servo tape it in or velcro it. Some of the drifters are taking sheet foam and making little Sparco seats out of them. I may try that.

Anyone in the Mid-West area looking for some "major" VTA Racing this coming Sunday, June 12th...... the Asphalt Assault Series, Race #2, is coming to Strictly RC Hobbies in Norridge, IL (West Chicagoland).
Expecting 72 Degrees, Sunshine, and 15-20 VTAs, along with USGT, F1, 17.5 TC, and possibly MOD TC.
Paul Lemieux will be down to race with us and help out racers with setting up their X-Ray cars! Paul 100% supports the series as he believes it will help revive on road racing in the area.
Check the 2011 Asphalt Assault Series thread under Wisconsin/Illinois Racing.
Come and put the pedal to the metal......

Got my son's SS motors in today. I couldnt find any timing reference on them. I thought you could time the SS motors like the Ballistics.

There are no markings on them. You can make a gauge using a small strip of tape and dividing the circumference of the motor into 360 degrees etc. and by using estimates for the start and end of the range, but really just crank full timing into it (i.e. to the mechanical limit, as far as it will go) and it will be fine!

look at the endbell the bottom screw of the 3 away from the solder posts has a line in the ring close to it. if the line is to the left all the way and it's only about 1/8" or so it's 30 degree if it's all the way as far as it will rotate to the right it's about 42 degree. total about a 1/4" swing. just crank it right and gear from there.

Mark the endbell relative to the can so you can return to "neutral". Then loosen the three screws in the endbell and rotate to advance or retard timing. Often you'll need to use a flat blade screwdriver in the notches in outside of the ring to get purchase--be careful, don't slip and stab your hand.
