Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Lf springs are only available in sets. 5168 is a standard spring.

Does anyone know which Jconcepts front wing fits on the TLR 3.0?

All of them on their website are for the AE buggys.

You can use an AE spur gear if you trim a little bit off the slipper pads so that they fit in the slot on the gear.

You're right. I did buy the wrong car and then I bought the 3.0. I just happen to have an AE 69T spur gear readily available.

In the process of building my kit. Maybe I'm just spoiled with my Tekno's and Kyosho's, but the fit on these parts leaves A LOT to be desired. Trying to get a free moving suspension requires filing, reaming, and several assemble/disassemble sequences to get it right.

This is my first Losi, but has this been typical of all of their kits? I have the suspension moving freely, actually really good now--but wow! Quite a bit of work to do so! I know I tried to help one of the kids this week with his at the track when he brought it to me with the front suspension so tight it barely moved.

my kit was slightly tight, if your front shoulder screws are not straight, the front end will bind..

myself i would rather it be a little tight, work in and not be sloppy, then have it be all sloppy and what not

The front shoulder screws were the issue on his car last week, we reamed the a-arms and it freed it up quite a bit, but still very, very stiff.

I too would have it be a bit on the snug side and wear in, but that WAS NOT the case with my kit. Of course, 33 years as a CNC programmer makes me wish all things were as precise as possible. I'm simply saying that one cannot expect to assemble this kit without a fair amount of work on the plastic suspension pieces to ensure a properly handling car. A small smooth cut file and the appropriate reamers, along with patience, will yield the results needed.

I found that a practice run or two was all that was needed.

What is the downside of adding the spacer to the rear axle? I know it creates more forward bite because the dog bone plunged further in, which also helps keep it from falling out. But at the expense of what?

Jason I always love your reviews. I wish you would have mentioned the adjustability of this car vs its predecessor and competitors though. Things like the battery strap, VLA front arms and the pill inserts for rear toe and anti squat were major reasons I chose to buy this car.

Building it now, hope it drives as good as everyone says!

Jason Snyder said he broke his too in the vid. Seems like an easy fix for tlr, but i'm sure the aftermarket has thier eyes on this issue.
