I did a search looking for the factory default setting for timing advance on the RX8. The most recent post I could find was this, but it is a 1 1/2 year old post.

Is this still true for an RX8 manufactured in the last 6 months?

The timing from 1 to 100 is a percentage of 30° timing. So 33 is roughly 10° timing.

Default is 10, but disregard that and time to your needs at your track and current gearing while watching temps.

Last weekend out at the track and car does not work.

Lights 1,3,5 go on and flash. Checked the manual which mentioned "voltage cutoff" or "thermal shutdown" under error codes. Battery is full and I'm just starting so no temperature yet... Can't be it.

Under trouble shooting also mention motor connection bad, receiver plug connection bad and speed control plugged into wrong channel on receiver.

Last option can't be it since car was fine last time. Checked all cables and connections and could not find anything. Changed receiver but that also did not help.

Took ESC out of the car and checked all connections and cables again; nothing wrong!!

Tried to reset to factory settings; doesn;t work. ESC just goes back to flashing 1,3,5. Disconnected fan, no help.

Tomorrow gonna cut the cables (all soldered, no plugs). Have another RX8 so can check if the motor is the problem. But motor was fine last time, is not old, did not get wet, did not get hot and turns freely.

Anybody any thoughts what this could be?
There's still a chance that the ESC was exposed to moisture. If youd have a HotWire I would try reflashing the firmware version.

I would be flabergasted if you are correct on this.

I don't have access to the hotwire setup at the moment, so my question remains; What is the default setting for timing advance on RX8's manufactured within the last 6 months?

The answer to your question is 10.

Manufacture date is not important, the firmware you have installed is. The last couple firmware versions that I know of have been 10.

Prepared to be flabbergasted

You are saying that 10º timing actually means 33º. I can't (yet) accept that. It flies in the fact of common sense.

No. The value of 1 to 100 is a percentage of a total 30° timing. So 50 is 15°.

100 would not be 100° timing right? That also would not make sense.

So a the current numerical value of the default setting for timing advance, commonly called boost, is "10", and that is an abstract value that really means 3º of timing advance, correct?

Can someone else confirm this?

The stock setting is 10 on the slidder which equates to 3 deg of timing advance. This obviously is not much.

What others have been say is correct. If you have hot wire do adjust "advance timing" on your RX8 you can adjust the slidder from 0-100. 100 on this setting adds 30 of timing so as you adjust the slidder you are getting a percentage of 30 deg of the max timing you can add to this system.

I have a Hotwire. Connected it and was told firmware is outdated. Flashed successfully to v223.

Changed default settings to 4S and BL motor and successfully saved settings to ESC. All looking good, everything working.

But when I disconnect Hotwire the ESC goes back to blinking 1,3,5.

Went back to Hotwire; version still good. Flashed again anyway. Again no issues. Again updated settings. All without issues.

But after disconnecting Hotwire again 1,3,5 flashing.

So the ESC is not dead, can flash and change settings but can't get it to stop flashing.

Any further ideas?

Not sure what the error code means without looking it up, fortunately I have zero experience with error codes on this esc
Edit: Never mind, read above... but below still applies, worth a try.

But did you calibrate after you flashed the new firmware? You have to Cal after flash.

I can calibrate (press mode 3 seconds, get the chimes, pull throttle, etc.) and the cycle completes as per normal.

But once calibration completes it goes back to flashing 1,3,5.

Yeah, neutral, throttle, brake. Then final chime a couple seconds later.
And still nothing? I got nothing then.

Default newb question

I have just gotten into 8th scale buggy. I am trying to race it. I have a RX8 and two motors in my pit to choose from. The buggy is a losi 8 2.0 e race roller and the two motor choices are truggy 2250 and a buggy 2650. I will mainly be running 3s 5300mah (90% of the time) and occasionally for fun a 4s 5000mah. any suggestons on gearing as well. I am trying to achieve a a nice smooth drive and cool temps as well as long run times. thank you.
