have run novak ss 5800, gtb 6.5 and mamba max 4600/5700 and would go with the mamba it is so programmable and also the most versatile speed control out there nothing against novak I love my 6.5 but the max has lipo cutoff punch control ect. Also you have a huge selection of sensorless motors to choose from.

Anyone got picks of how they mounted there gtb's or mamba max's in there B4s?

Looking into one of these ESC's, had the mamba previously and it did well, just with it did 6V bec, but the price is still significantly better than novak.

Of the mamba motors, which is popular for the B4? 4600 or 5700? Had the 5700 in my T4 and liked it by the way.

if you run the fan, do you need to cut a whole in your body?

Similar question on the MM units, any holes needed for the heat sinks? Also, what direction are you guys mounting the units so you can still access the USB Ports?

Thats a nice Setup ApexSpeed!!!

Would be great if you can tell me your setup, i see you got Orion Lipo batteries (4800), (which cutt of voltage do you use?)

Which Novak Brushlesss do you have and gearing? And i also like the battery tray setup where did you buy it??

Sorry for the questions..

Thanks!!

I never ran a fan with mine, but I never ran a motor hotter than a 6.5 (which you shouldn't need in any 2wd car). Novak agreed that a fan wasn't necessary, especially with airflow over the ESC. I never had an issue with heat, indoors or outdoors. I also used a JConcepts Illusion w/scoop to make sure that there was cool air flowing over the heatsinks.

Thanks. I didn't use a voltage cutoff on that car. IMO, you don't need it if you don't try to squeak every second out of your packs. I own a Novak cutoff add-on, but never took it out of the bag. I've never found a need for them if you use your head and stop the instant the car begins to slow. Honestly, I've never taken a LiPo Platinum down low enough to even feel power drop-off.

The GTB system in the car is a 6.5 with a sintered rotor. I can't remember exactly, but it was geared in the range of 81/18, give or take one tooth up or down on the pinion. Way more motor than you can use most of the time—VERY fast.

The battery strap is Associated Factory Team carbon strap (#9586) with Associated Factory Team thumb screws (#1787).

I've been running a Novak 5.5 in my B4 for over a year now.

It's definitely a lot of motor, and takes a ton of throttle control, but it is manageable.

I just put in a 7.5 (after all this time of being told I was waay overpowered), i finally buckled.

It's much easier to drive, but I don't have that 'punch' that was always there when I needed it.

The 7.5 is enough motor, but I like having the extra power on tap with the 5.5

I don't use a fan, and get 23 minutes on some old IB4200's on the track.

If you were running on very slippery tracks like we do here in New Zealand would you use a bonded rotor instead of a sintered rotor to tame the maotor slightly?

I wouldn't use the bonded rotor anywhere, personally.

The power does NOT change in the motor when you upgrade to a sintered rotor. It increases the brakes, and allows it to run cooler, so you can gear up (if you wish). The bonded rotors that I took out of my motors were dropped into the trash. I see no reason to swap between the two.

I run at SoCal and find I can't put more power to the ground than the Novak 7.5 can dish out.
