Let me elaborate on the why. It's a goal. A celebration of accomplishment with friends. It's not easy. It's hard. Very hard.
Pushing your body and mind so that the mind overcomes the body's will to quit. Diets fail all the time. Why? Because diet changes but the lifestyle doesn't. I speak from experience when I say that it is a whole lot easier to turn down a brownie at lunch when I know I am going to have to complete my run 2 minutes faster or extend it to make up for the extra caloric intake.
It keeps you honest. Work hard in the gym, on the road, on the track and diet falls into place. I love to run once I get past that point where it hurts. If you are a runner or have run before you know what I am talking about. Even when I was killing 3.2 miles in 24 minutes I still had a physical marker as to when my body was screaming at me to give up. I knew if I made it past that point I was good. Past that point it was EASY...
Women just won't get why Men would want to do something like this. Coz they are wired different... (secret super duper hidden read between the lines implied intentionally)

I might be up for joining you guys in this. Some of you may remember me...I used to race....
I'm currently training to do a 5k in Nashville on Sept 22 called the Warrior Dash. Looks kinda like a shorter version of the Tough Mudder, with a viking theme!
http://www.warriordash.com/register2012_tennessee.php
There are probably still spots available, I'm in the 12:30pm group. They release 500 people every 30 minutes on to the course.
I'm at about 188# right now and hope to be down a few pounds by the time the race happens, but right now just getting into running is a challenge. I've always been a cyclist and pumping out 50-60 miles on a road bike, or 35 -40 on a drunken west knox to downtown and back weeknight ride has been no problem..running is different. It is kicking my ass, but I love the challenge.
For now, count me into your little club of mudders. Looks like fun!

Widget - 248lbs start weight was 255...
Body Fat - 22.0%
BMI - 29.9
3.1 miles? GPS glitch I guess.
Ran this one in 41:47. Felt pretty good this run even though I didn't wanna go. My heart rate didn't jump over 180 at all this time out. I am feeling pretty good. Can already start to feel more energetic throughout the day...

I have to defend Alan on this. I have a cousin who was doing a Warrior Dash like Gouge was talking about last year. He was near the finish and dove into a big long mud hole and hit head first. He nearly drowned before being pulled out by on lookers and is paralyzed from the neck down. Freak accident? Absolutely. Something to keep in mind? Certainly.
