Default Electric Monster Trucks---The Quest for Speed!

i've been in this hobby for a few years now and acquired quite some trucks along the way. Used to be quite fun going up and down the grassy hills in my area where only trucks with high clearance can go.

Recently i decided to build a fast truck. I bought a 16.8v E-Maxx off Tower Hobbies, put in a Quark 80A with Ammo 36-56-1800 and UBEC, and ran two helicopter 11.1v 3S lipos in series for 22.2v. i'm pretty happy with the result.

I still have a spare Quark and brushless motor to use.
So thinking of finding one more truck. Only 4wd electric trucks, as electric buggies don't have the clearance where I run my truck at Old Holland Road.
Onroad cars are also no-no as I can't find a place in Singapore with a 200m or so onroad straight where I don't get disturbed by real size cars. They are definitely faster, but no point having a 100km/h rc car if I can't run it wide open throttle for more than a few seconds.

Have considered the below:
1. Wild Dagger
- i own one
- needs 2 motors

2. TXT-1
- don't own any now
- tend to topple at high speed

3. Clod Buster
- had one and sold it
- needs 2 motors

4. E-Maxx
- the old version I still have, but the drivetrain seems a bit weaker

5. Twin Force
- never had one, not sure if its good and can stand up to brushless power
- i don't like the open transmission

6. E-Zilla/E-savage
- have 1, have a mamba max with ammo 36-56-2600 in it running 3S lipos or 12 cell nimhs
- pretty fast, but very unstable, tends to topple over at high speeds

Are there other trucks that are on the horizon? Losi has lots of trucks but no E-LST2. Any idea if they are planning one?

Here's 2 pics of my 22.2v E-Maxx where I usually bring it to run

Well, check this out...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CVjtNgEK4E

Revo has the best handling at high speed with its long arms.. Also, its chasis is pretty low, so very ideal for speed racing.. great toughness cos designed for nitro.. It've got readily available conversion kit as well:
http://www.teknorc.com/product_info.php?products_id=935

It's my dream truck.. juz prob with $$$...

- revo cost abt $800++
- conversion kit ~$300 shipped
- brushless setup $400++
- Lipos $300++
Almost $2k for the truck!!!!

Nice!
Revo is very stable. I have the older 2.5 version with shorter wheelbase, still working fine, zero breakages after so long. but problem is: engine's still great! so until the engine says byebye, i won't swap out. if not it will be such a waste of the engine.

i have a terra crusher in storage---engine's dead but everything else is ok.
Maybe i think about how to make that into electric!!

huasze. good to see you're still messing with big monsters!

after reading your list. looks like your best bet will still be a traxxas MT.

i dun think you'd go the emaxx route as you already have one like that right?

i wouldnt buy a revo and then trick it out with that conversion...looks like an over rated overly cluttered conversion imo.

of course if your revo engine went kaput then go for it lah hahaha...

you mentioned you had a tamiya monster? sounds promising......only difficult part would be the BL motor mating with the tamiya tranny...

consider converting a 1/8 buggy? its been done to death already but that may be what you're looking for?

you up for doing some fabrication on your own? i just might have an unfinished project that you could use for this pursuit!

yo overt and huasze!!! The original EPMT thread starters!

Good to see you guys popping up.

EP 1/8 sounds like a good plan. Speed and handling - power to weight ratio should be good too.

skyblue: the mamba max is ok for me. runs slightly warm on 12 cells at 20t gearing, on 11.1v and 14.4v. no cooling fan, but i use a UBEC available from united hobbies for USD 8.

benste: i just got the dx3r, reason is for the non-glitching. quite happy with it!

overt: i thinking of how i can put a BL motor on the terra crusher but that means i will need to machine out stuff. and the only way i can do that will be to go to my uncle's factory n borrow the machine! i not a machining guy---just once off sort of thing la! buggy not really my type cos of the ground clearance. prefer trucks!

bc: i was actually into helis but had exams, so i stopped flying. when i came back, it was trucks again! i like the traxxas slash, but its not a MT and has low clearance. really hoping for a e-LST!! haha
