Default Tires

The most important stuff in racing of any sort... TIREs

Anyone got anything to share here?

Inserts, traction compounds, warmers, methods for getting the max out of a tire etc...

A question to kick start with. Softer inserts more grip but overheat faster right? Harder less grip but more consistant.

Nipple, what do you need to measure with the DAQ?
There are many DAQ in NTU laboratory...especially MM lab..

Just to share some pics on vehicles testing..

1) Picture of a cut out engine fitted with all sorts of pressure sensors.
2) 6 DOF (degree of freedom) testing on cars dynamics...even F1 is using such method but I think they even more DOF
3) A customised dyno system for display....using a Tamiya Truck...same concept can apply on the real truck..

all pics are taken during a SAE show in Yokohama, Japan

I saw Kistler, all those are your company's product ah?

MM Lab? Mechanics of Machine Lab?
Most of the DAQ in NTU I saw are NI's and PCI type. So I can't take home to use......
Then I'm under mechatronic, I usually work at Robotic Reserach Center and Mechatronic Lab. The DAQs there are limited and mainly for research students/fellow doing flight control or underwater vehicles.

Hehehe........I want to measure individual cell data in a battery pack. Then also thinking of making my own motor dyno.

Just wondering,
In the future, maybe EP can be powered by Fuel Cell.

So Fuel Cell + Brushless + Cooling system like Alex Racing TCS = Play non stop like GP. Just refuel and continue.

Can don't buy expensive charger, discharger, and matched batt.

But Sagami's Boss would strongly disagree to approve fuel cell and brushless. Cos no one will buy carbon brushes anymore.......hehehehe

The limiting factor would be tx batt.....

Indeed... The distance can be very taxing.

Pason, is the working prinicple of an engine dyno similar to a electric motor dyno? RC Electric motor's dyno usually works on calculation by spinning a fixed mass. For Gas engine, what does it use? What type of Load cells? I remember you posted somewhere before rite?

Nipple,

For cell voltage measurment, you do not need a high sampling rate A/D card.
Maybe I can try to borrow one from NI...do you know how to use Labview program? Maybe next year I can showcase your work during NI days.

For Gas engine performance measurment or engine testing..
Basic set up, you need an engine test bed.
The test bed consists of:
1) Eddy current dyno
2) throttle actuator
3) airflow meter
4) fuel flow meter
5) Pressure sensors
6) combustion analyser/ or other software written to capture your required data.
7) engine with necessary accessories
8) rpm encoder at engine
9) vibration sensor.

You need certain fix point to cross reference to different testing.
RPM at engine crankshaft is the best reference.
At a fix RPM, eg 5000rpm, you will check what is the following:
1) fuel consumption
2) throttle position
3) air folw into the carburator
4) presure data at inlet manifold, outlet manifold and cylinder
5) eddy dyno, will mainly show your the rpm and torque etc.

A combustion analyser will get all this data and compute into graph, most ppl are interested inthe pressure/volume diagram.
