Default Tekin Short track Nationals, Billings MT, March 2008

Official announcement:

The "Tekin Short Track Nationals", sponsored by Stormer Hobbies.

March 8-9th, 2008 in Billings Montana at the Shrine auditorium.

Jim Campbell of Tekin, and myself were talking about how it seems our area and region seems like we kind of get passed over a lot for the really cool, fun and different stuff. So, we put our heads together and came up with this concept to add additional fun, and value to the regionals. Key word is fun.

4 classes of cars based on the Losi Slider, 1/18th scale sprint cars and late models.

Rules are on post #24 further down.

This will be run as part of the regular schedule during the ROAR region 11 Carpet championships. After a round of regionals is run, we run a round of the Short track nationals. etc.

The building is big enough that we are simply putting up another piece of dedicated carpet next to the other massive track for the regionals. There will be a complete timing system on it as well, so we can have practice and what not.

This is short track racing. the layout is likely to be an oval of about 24x60' (that's the exterior of the track). We've tested the sizes and anything to much bigger just isn't as fun. Based on track size, we are "likely" limiting all heats and mains to 6 cars. Although I doubt this will happen, we are limiting entrys to 72 total, split among the 4 classes.

There will be trophys, Tekin stuff, Losi stuff and a bunch of other prizes.

Jim Campbell and the guys from Tekin will be in attendance to race, hang out, answer questions, and have some fun.

Stormer Hobbies and crew will have on hand plenty of spare parts and complete Slider cars. We want to make sure everybody that needs something to keep racing has the parts they need, on site.

This race is happening.

May have to think about this one!

Have you TRIED a Slider yet? Good God they're the most fun you can have with your clothes on. And talk about realistic looks!! I haven't raced oval since we were running gold tub RC10's on Walt Hale's (Hale's RC) property on South Hill/Puyallup 20 years ago but when I saw the Sliders I couldn't resist and can't wait to have a shot at racin' 'em wheel-to-wheel.

If yer bustin' for a "mini" event I can't see it making much sense to be choosy about the first one. Who knows...if this is successful enough I can see it being offered in the future as a dedicated "mini" event with road racing on one side and oval on the other. BUT...it has to be supported/nurtured first, and the way to do that is to support the HELL out of it.

Just my thoughts.

We the Northern Mini Racers have a bunch of "old style" ozite that we could make a good deal on if you need more carpet, I think 1 roll is brand new.

That and he left out the Wyoming and S. Dak transit stages. THAT'S the healthy level of denial I like to be associated with!! At least the healthy level of denial that propels me to Denver for club races...

Ok, so what else will I need to pack - I'm driving the Stealth Van with only myself, so room for almost anything!

I was even on your site, place a small order and looked at the slider. I'll wait for the rules, prior to diving in, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for putting more fun in RACING!!

I'd like to forget those states. Sorry in advance if you live there, but going from Fort Collins - Billings - Omaha - Denver - Fort Collins, I have to drive thru these states!

This car would be perfect for the track here in Fort Collins, and might be able to do the oval with out the "Table Top in Turn 1 - 2"

I have in fact run dirt oval before. In fact, its how I started racing all those years ago. It wasn't a choice, it all there was in Kentucky. So yes, I am speaking from experience.

I also have run and built Mini-T's for people.. they are ok other than the spindles being fragile and leaky shocks. I only run Xray 1/18th personally since 1/18th is my only class (since 1/28th isn't run), and I know quality products.

I totally understand supporting. People only can support what they are interested in however. That being said, I think you will get plenty since oval has a big following and the Slider is a great spec class!

So please don't misunderstand me. I think its great! Im sure it will be a success and hopefully as you say in the future it will lead to other classes/events for us smaller enthusiast racers.

Oh and PS. BUMP!

Found a few videos of folks doing some short track Slider racing.

Our track will be very similar to the one in the videos below. Maybe 10 feet longer total on the size. I think these guys are at 35 feet, we'll be just a shade longer. But very similar.
