I just bought one of the 1000 watt inverter type generators. I don't think it will get here this week though.
as for how much load a generator can use...
charging batteries... about 8 volts @ 5amps = 40 Watts
Soldering Iron... about 15 to 100 Watts... typically 40W for R/C
electric fan? depends... I'd say about 50w
So I'm guessing a 1000W generator can supply plenty of power for more than a couple of racers

The downfall of running the generator hard all day long with a full load is that gas gets used up much quicker, you accelerate the risk of shorting the rotor or stator and at times I've experienced false peaks/ charger errors when too many chargers are charging at the same time and too much equipment is powered on.
That's why I make Karl or Joel pay for lunch when they ask for power

VJ and I are friends i'll hook him up with food and gas money. I mean hey the guy cant keep a tire on his mini... he needs something to cheer up his day.
Oh VJ got a table last night.... 40x38. Its pretty nice... enough room for both of us.
oh yea... Karl are you going to be running Stock? If you are I may need to hustle and build some packs tonight or tomorrow. LOL
