im gonna take it to the lhs the guy there is has been racing nitro for over 20 years his pretty good with tuning.. illlet u know how it goes
With that temp, I think you can lean the top a bit, and after that probably you need to richen the bottom also.....

Default engine prob solved..

Thanks everyone for your help

The engine ended up having a rich low end. Its now able to idle for more than 30+ seconds and then take off with just a slight rich blurb.

The low end needle actually sits screwed in about 1.5 mm from the carb body.. temps are up in the 100degree range now with the engine making great power.

thanks guys!

The DS II .21 , like most engines, comes with different size inserts for the carburetor: 7, 8, & 9.

Clay.

I don't remember the measurement, but if you are thinking of using some other carb,,, Sportwerks carbs fit. They are cheaper & work better than the picco carbs. These do NOT fit; Nova, OS, Sirio, Rossi, Cippola, and Force.

It has been my experience over the years, that any carb you can cram in there, will work better that the picco carbs!
I think Picco engines are top shelf. Great materials, long lasting, able to withstand a lot of abuse and high performance. But,,, the carbs are designed by the retarded step-nephew! I can see this scene play out in my mind; (CEOs' wife to CEO) "you hire Gesepe to make carb!" "He like carbs." "You no hire Gesepe, you no get any of this!"

I think in the .12 size engines, you can use Nova with Picco too.
There are also a couple of adapters for fitting OS carbs to Nova or Picco.

I tried a Cippola carb on my .21 over the weekend. I was very pleased with the results. It did require reducing the size of the neck, in order to install it in the Picco block. Not too hard since the neck of the Cippola has an insulating sleave on it. The fiber material cuts nicely on the lathe.
Several advantages with this carb. First, it has all adjustments on the end of the body (opposite of the slide). Far easier to get to the idle speed & low-end adjustments. The flow rates are a closer match to the engines needs than the Sportwerks (and of course the Picco). Still not quite right, but pretty close. The idle is still a little rich when the rest of the low-end adjustment is correct. I will try some different plugs to see if that cures it.
