It would work for anything but if you are running spec racing not sure you are looking to take away power.

Voltage x Amperage = Watts

So reduce the voltage and you reduce your power out put. Most people will compensate for the reduction in volts by using a lower turn motor, which draws more amps, therefore same power output at a lower voltage.

But the power band it still much different. That is the real goal of 5 cells. To get the BL power band to be more in the "Brushed Range." I run 5 cells in Truck and 2wd, but I still love the power in 4wd. Something you gotta play with to find what you like.

well my bl is pretty damn smooth....LRP sphere w/ 13.5ss...it's very driveable. But would a 5 cell smooth it out even more? maybe make it more driveable at the low end?

I think the idea is to use a faster motor but less voltage, so you still have good top end speed but less aggressive throttle. I tried it once, but my cells were so rubbish that the car was too slow - back to 6 cells for me

Brent and I ran the LRP brushless system the entire time, but we waited to run it until the puddles were off the track and we had some blue tack to protect the motor from water.

I tried both a 7.5 and 8.5 turn X11 motor with sintered rotors. The rotor change really affects the power-band and we could run much larger pinion than normal. Both Brent and I ended up on the 8.5 with 25-78 or 81 gearing. SC speedo at 2-2-0-1. Expo -20% throttle, -20% brake.

From what little I've done with 5 cell Mod off-road, I think that it feels like a 19t powerband with a mod useable topend. I use it on very low traction tracks and sometimes with 19t. Just makes it easier to drive.
