Why are in the lighweight diffs bushings used?Could I replace them with bearings....what are the differences?

Just wondering what sort of small fan to use to cool the motor(I've seen some cars setup like this).
Is a 12v 4 cm Ball bearing fan from a PC suitable or should I try a lower voltage(5v?) one of the same size?

Thanks, everyone for your replies.
Regarding using the bearings instead of the bushings in the lightweight diffs, the bearings will not fit. I have dremeled out some of the diff to make more room to fit the bearings. So far, it has been working great.

You must have the wrong bearings. Mine fit fine, no dremel necessary.

but why are the bushings much thinner' than the bearings...?The bearings fit, but they are not completely countersinked as the bushing...

The bearings I have are the same size as the bushings, so they fit fine. The bearings must be the same thickness to fit right. If your bearings are thicker than the bushings, you have the wrong ones.

Laptop fans are generally 5VDC fans and will run to full capacity, even on receiver power.

Trinity supplies a 5VDC fan with their foam car stands for cooling the motor after a run. Buy it just for the fan and sell the foam stand to someone that may want it... or toss it as i did. (Trinity is tha devil lol) It is also the same fan found in the Trinity RealTime battery tray. Radio Shack only carries 12VDC fans in most stores, but online they sell 5VDC fans. By the time you pay/wait for shipping, you could have already gotten one from the hobby shop. Just a suggestion...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I can get a 12v 4 cm fan easily enough but can't find any 5 volt ones at the local "Electronics shop"...should I try a specialist PC store to source the 5v ones from a laptop?

I told you I was having occasional glitching problems with my set up too. Not all the time but an occasional glitch - just when you least expect it.
We have our end of season one hour endurance this Saturday and I really wanted to ensure that we don't have any such problems.
We did a dummy run yesterday with both team TC3s and didn't have a spot of bother with either car in over an hour's running.
What I did was I installed one of the Yokomo receiver capacitors, part # YTSTS and it really seemed to cure it. Not a trace of glitching anywhere.
Worth a try.

A close friend of mine sent me a brand new GM SX12 Purple speedo with heat sink. He suggested it as a cure for my glitch. The thing is so friggen tiny. I looked online and there doesnt seem to be alot of info on this speedo, and i dont read German to well. Can anyone help me out? Anything would be appreciated.

Regarding the bearings in the lightweight diffs, I had to dremel some of the material out of the diff housing because the bearings that came with the original TC3 kit are slightly thicker and do not allow you to tighten the diff all the way. If you found bearings that drop right in, then good for you and no dremelling necessary.
Regarding those looking for fans, my LHS has a Reedy TC3 motor clip-on heatsink with a fan mounted onto it. You can also buy replacement fans with the part number listed in the instructions. Sorry, I don't have the part number, but I do know that it is there because the owner and I were wondering how to get low voltage fans at that size.
