Yes Colin. A hemi wind will be about a half turn less than a Mabuchi. The Checkpoint motor, Reedy Quad magnet and the Blue Atlas are all Hemi wound motors.

The C2, KD-19 turn and the Evo Zone 19 turn from Itegy are Mabuchi cross wrapped.

No worries Jolly Can't get mad at someone named Jolly. It wouldn't be right

Darkseid,

Stiffer springs (to me) seem to add RPM and take away punch.

That to me seems the opposite. I always use a stiffer spring to get more bottom end.

I have found that a stiffer spring gave me a little more punch too but what I also think that the stiffer spring did was take away a little brush bounce which also improved the overall performance of the motor.

Stiffer springs increase RPM. Counter intuitive, but that's the way it seems to work.

I won't argue with STNLST tho, anyone who is able to rocket thru a solid pipe at the end of a straightaway must know something about horsepower.

You know anyone looking for a spektrum set for the helios??? I gotta finish putting the car together then tune my motors. You have a money motor right??? I'll help you tune it up for this weekends race. What springs are coming on them stock????

Stiffer springs to add RPM....hmmm. Certainly does seem odd. But hey, who am I to argue. I'm the one trying to learn more about this motor stuff.

Actually, within reasonable limits, stiffer springs can give you BOTH for a well maintained motor. When you punch a motor at low speed, the high amp draw creates a plasma effect which tends to impair the brush to comm contact (it actually tends to push the brushes off the comm) -- stiffer springs can overcome this, so you get more bottom end punch...

At higher RPM, the stiffer springs (again - within reason) KEEP the brushes in good contact, overcoming vibration and any tendency for brush bounce, which would restrict the RPM peak...

Of course, it is possible to OVER spring, and in that case, the springs are so strong that they almost turn the brushes into brake shoes and the top end RPM range is reduced due to all the drag.

The key is to spring as strong as you can until you see the peak RPM limit start to drop and then back down one grade in stiffness. This is where a good dyno pays off, but track testing will tell you the same thing, just not as simple to test that way...

I have been able to confirm that the Silver "Medium/Hard" springs really make the "Money" motor HAPPY... I think the Atlas brushes are a bit soft for 19t offroad (softer springs "drag" more), but the motor runs so well, I'm leaving them in for now...
